The NBA playoffs roll on Friday night with a nice little 2-game slate. The shorthanded Knicks will try to extend their series lead to 3-0 when their series shifts to Indiana. Out West, the Timberwolves will look to do the same when they return home after grabbing the first 2 games in Denver earlier in the week.

We’ve got some injuries to monitor, as several key players are carrying questionable tags into Friday’s game. What is this, the regular season? Jalen Brunson, Tyrese Haliburton, and Jamal Murray are all questionable to play, as are Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Reggie Jackson.

It’s difficult to deal in certainties on a slate with tons of uncertainty as of this writing, but we’ll do our best. Let’s build a PrizePicks winner, shall we?

NBA PrizePicks Predictions Today

Karl-Anthony Towns More/Less Than 29.5 Points + Rebounds + Assists

Anthony Edwards has been the driving force in the Wolves’ surprising 2-0 series lead, but let’s give Karl-Anthony Towns his flowers too. Through the first 2 games, KAT is averaging 23.5 points, 8 rebounds, and a couple of assists per game. That includes a 27-point, 12-rebound demolition of the Nuggets frontcourt in Game 2, which was huge for Minnesota with Rudy Gobert missing from the lineup.

Gobert will be back tonight, and his presence does affect Towns a bit. KAT predictably sees slight decreases in both usage and rebound rate with Gobert on the floor, but the minutes will be key. The Wolves were limiting Towns after he returned from a knee injury late in the season, but he logged 36 minutes in the last game. Now that he’s no longer limited, the 29.5 combined points/rebounds/assists figure here looks low. Towns averaged nearly 22 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists per game during the regular season.

Nikola Jokic More/Less Than 12.5 Rebounds

Jokic won his 3rd MVP award in the last 4 years the other day, yet this is the most dire situation the Nuggets have faced in quite a while. Denver absolutely can’t afford to lose tonight, yet they’re listed as 3.5-point road underdogs in what should be a hostile environment in Minnesota.

With Jamal Murray banged up, the Nuggets need Jokic to play like the MVP. The Joker put up a solid line of 32 points, 9 assists, and 8 rebounds in Game 1, yet it wasn’t enough. Jokic wasn’t much of a factor offensively in Game 2, as he was held to just 16 points on 5-for-13 shooting. He did, however, pull down 14 rebounds. Jokic averaged about 12 rebounds in 4 regular-season meetings with Minnesota.

This one could legitimately go either way, but I’d be surprised if Jokic didn’t top 40 minutes assuming this game is competitive. The more minutes Jokic gets, the more likely he is to do damage on the boards.

Jaden McDaniels More/Less Than 18 Fantasy Points

The Wolves’ defense has been the story through the first 2 games. Minnesota has absolutely suffocated the high-octane Denver offense, which was legitimately shocking to see in Game 2 without Gobert. That’s because the wing defenders, namely Jaden McDaniels and Nickeil Alexander-Walker, have been outstanding.

McDaniels is really the unsung hero for the Wolves, and that’s likely because he’s not a high-usage offensive focal point. In roughly 30 minutes per game in the regular season, McDaniels averaged around 10 points and 3 rebounds per game.

As expected, McDaniels is playing a bigger role in the playoffs. He’s up to around 35 minutes per game in the postseason, and he’s seen an increase in rebounds. This could be a sweat considering McDaniels isn’t a particularly good per-minute producer, but I’m optimistic about his chances of getting there for us given the big-minute role.
