Rise & Grind: Tuesday, November 3rd
Welcome to the RotoGrinders cup o’morning joe. Start your day off right here, as we sort through yesterday’s happenings and take a peek at the upcoming DFS day.
In Case You Missed It
FanDuel Contest Limits – Lately, it seems like major DFS news breaks every day. With the recent all out assault by casino moguls, politicians, calls-action lawyers, and internet commenters everywhere, the sites have begun looking at their policies and procedures. One issue that the RG community has championed for years is low stakes game limits. Yesterday, FanDuel took the first step towards correcting that issue with a code-enforced game limit on the site. Players will now be blocked from joining more than 500 NFL contests or 250 NBA contests at $10 and under for any single lock time. Several in the forums have already weighed in on this change. Feel free to voice your opinion as well. A little birdie also told me that Dan Back will have a podcast up this morning. I’m sure Dan will have some thoughts on this.
RotoGrinders Rankings Update – As part of the ongoing process review mentioned above, DK and FD have temporarily pulled the RG rankings feed. That actually happened a few weeks ago. Both sites are hopeful to be able to support the rankings in some form in the future. In the meantime RG will be gathering publically available game date on our own to use in the rankings. Riley explains things here. The new ranking system will only include contests in the lobby with over $10K in prizes. The new rankings will also be able to provide tier rankings according to buy in. Go check out the thread!
NBA Lineup Alerts – We less than a week into the NBA season. Hopefully you have tried out NBA DFS already. If you are new, one of the keys to success will be finding an accurate and timely source for late scratches and lineup changes. Here at RG, we think we have the best tool for that. Go download the RG Lineups app. The link is in this thread. You’ll be able to receive push notifications to your phone when important news breaks. If you plan to grind NBA, this app is absolutely vital. There will surely be times where you can’t be glued to your computer all night. Let the RG team notify you of important news.
When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong – Here at the Rise and Grind we’ve always advised against tweeting at the athletes who ruined your DFS lineup. Most of them are likely to ignore your rant, but the ones that respond have many more followers than you do. Just because the R&G doesn’t condone tweeting at athletes doesn’t mean we won’t laugh at you when you get owned. A tweeter named Jason Thedsombandith would like John Brown to know that he has a place reserved on Jason’s fake bench of his fake team. That seems like a savvy move since the Cardinals are on a bye week next week. In case you were wondering, John Brown isn’t a good play next week, he’ll be at Jason’s girl’s house and I doubt he’ll “score” anyways.
NBA Recap – No matter how much traveling John Brown does on his bye week, it still won’t be more than D.J. Augustine did on this play. By my count, that was at least seven steps. I can’t remember how the rule reads, but I’m not sure that move was legal. In other NBA news, James Harden proved that revenge games are real as he dropped 37 points on his former team. The Golden State Warriors must have also had revenge in mind as they beat the Memphis Grizzlies by 50!
Big Winners – The month of November is easily the best DFS month of the year. Last night, Grinders were sweating NFL, NBA, and NHL lineups. This column doesn’t have enough space to recognize everyone and I apologize for that. Feel free to pat yourself on the back though and maybe even give your own shoutout in the comments below. Hopefully, you made some money last night. If you did, you probably still didn’t make as much as “Slammin’ ehafner.” The Daily Tournaments links from last night are located here. They don’t include FD NBA results but I’m told ehafner took down the Slam. He also won 8 of the top 10 spots in the $5 Layup. Over on DraftKings, we do have the NBA results. Dahladino claimed 1st and 2nd in the Sharpshooter, banders234 claimed 1-7 in the Crossover, and Assani won the 3-Ball.
I didn’t run through all of the NFL results, but one contest did stick out to me. SamENole was sweating an NFL qualifier to the CFB Playboy Championship on FD. Things were looking good before Andrew Luck began his comeback in the fourth quarter. SamENole had a slight ead and his only major threat was whodieredd, who used Adam Vinatieri at kicker. Luck drove the Colts down the field and Vinatieri sank a 24 yard field goal to take the game to overtime. Vinatieri wasn’t done though. After a six play drive, the Colts sent Vinatieri in to kick a 50 yard FG, which he sank along with SamENole’s hopes. Condolences go out to samenole, who know hates kickers as much as you do. Congrats are also in order for whodieredd on his qualifier win.
On a related note, Dan Back, aka DB730, also took down a CFB Playboy Mansion qualifier this weekend. The Rise and Grind would like to wish Dan good look on November 21st as he competes in the championship.
As always, the rest of last night’s links are located in this forum thread and you can also find past results by searching for previous threads. Thehazyone also has an excellent recap of all the tournaments I missed over the weekend in his Tournament Report.
On the Menu
NBA Tonight – The best thing about DFS is that we don’t have to live in the past. If last night wasn’t your night, or the injury bug but you hard in NFL, that’s okay. Today is a new day that offers chances to play NBA, CFB, NFL, NHL, and soccer. We’ll start with the largest sport first. Notorious has his NBA First Look posted already. Give it a read (after you finish this column) to get a jumpstart on your research. You can also join the conversation in the NBA Strategy Thread while you wait for the NBA Grind Down to be posted. You can then top that off with three hours of live NBA advice on GrindersLive.
NarrativeStreet – I know this will sadden many of you, but Narrative Street is a bit of a wasteland on tonight’s seven-game slate. The only narrative worth targeting is Tyler Hansbrough celebrating a #BirthdayGame as the Raptors take on the Mavericks.
NBA GPP – Even with just seven games on the menu, FD and DK both have very nice sized GPPs. DraftKings has a $300K Crossover, $300K Sharpshooter, $100K Zone, and $150K 3-Ball. FanDuel has a $250K Shot, $150K Layup, $250K Slam and $125K Monster. Both sites are also running $1M tournaments tomorrow. If you’d like to qualify for those tournaments on the cheap, satellites are available.
NHL Tonight – With nine games on the schedule, there will be plenty of action for all you puckheads. TheTonyM has a great Introduction to DFS Hockey if you want to learn. There are also expert picks available for incentives members on the Daily Research Tab and boggslite and Pepsi7 will be on GrindersLive at 2:30 PM ET for the Daily Fantasy Faceoff.
Soccer/CFB – The content for CFB and Soccer is noticeably less across the DFS industry. That just means a larger edge for the sharp player. If you’d like to talk CFB with other sharp players, you can join the CFB Strategy Thread. DraftKings has close to $50K guaranteed for the TUE-WED slate and FD has roughly the same for a TUE-THU slate. If Soccer is your thing, DraftKings has over $50K guaranteed for today’s matches that start at 2:45 PM ET. Those GPPs include a $22K Striker, $18K Equalizer, and $10K Treble.
Closing Thoughts – The Rise and Grind has been absent over the last few weeks. Sadly, that’s meant we haven’t been able to keep you up to date with the legal developments surrounding DFS. By my count FD and DK are facing roughly 27 class-action lawsuits. Sites have pulled out of some states, most notably Nevada. Still other states are considering regulation. If you haven’t made your voice heard, now is the time to do so. Contact your representative and let them know that you enjoy DFS. If you don’t take time to help shape the future of DFS others will but they will do it with their own interests in mind.
