Sunday Night Football Betting Picks: Green Bay Packers at New Orleans Saints

Injuries to superstar wide receivers are the headlines heading into an exciting Sunday Night Football matchup. The Green Bay Packers are off to a 2-0 start after a memorable Week 2 performance from Aaron Jones shredded the Lions. The Saints will go down as the first losing team in Allegiant Stadium after falling to the Raiders on Monday night. The NFC matchup could be a potential playoff matchup without Michael Thomas and Davante Adams. Here are a sports betting preview and Sunday Night Football betting picks for the Packers at the Saints.

Packers vs. Saints SNF Betting Preview
The Saints will play another prime time contest without Michael Thomas. While the Saints’ offense struggled, New Orleans tripped over themselves repeatedly on the way to a loss to the Raiders. Penalties and poor throws throughout the second half helped the Raiders seal a victory. While an argument can be made that Brees missed Thomas, New Orleans needed to clear up the mistakes in a short week.
On the other side of the game, the Packers could potentially be without star receiver Davante Adams. Adams, doubtful tonight, injured his hamstring in the Week 2 victory against the Lions but a huge game for Aaron Jones (168 yards, 3 total touchdowns) was enough to route the hapless Lions. Adams could be a bigger loss to the Packers than Thomas to the Saints; the star receiver totals 20 targets while Allen Lazard and Marquez Valdes-Scantling total 22 combined. Aaron Rodgers keys in on Davante Adams; the Green Bay gameplan will be interesting given a better run defense in New Orleans awaits.
Green Bay has been pretty efficient on the offensive side of the ball thus far. with 6.2 yards per rushing attempt and 8.0 yards per pass attempt, the Packer offense seems to be hitting on all cylinders ahead of the NFC showdown. The Saints rushing attack has sputtered with only 3.7 yards per rush while the passing game’s woes seem attached to the arm of Drew Brees. Brees missed several easy throws on Monday night and seemed to lack the crispness in many throws. Brees, renowned for his accuracy, could miss Michael Thomas as a can’t-miss outlet.
Both teams are scoring enough points per game thus far to rationalize attacking the over of this game — with the total jumping from 51.5 at open all the way to 53 at the time of this writing. That said, the defensive competition has not been stout for either team thus far. Detroit, Tampa Bay, and Las Vegas all sat in the bottom ten for opponent scoring in 2020 with the lone exception, Minnesota, clearly lacking punch on the defensive side of the ball this season. The Packers and Saints both represent more formidable challenges for opposing offenses, especially New Orleans if the penalties are curtailed.
Sunday Night Football Betting Picks
As for my pick, the number is pretty important. At the time of this writing, the Packers are +3.5 at DraftKings, but +3 at competing online betting sites such as FanDuel Sportsbook and PointsBet. I am very interested in the 3.5 number for the Green Bay side but far less intrigued at -3. I will take the Packers were I can get this number but will stay away if the spread gets back to -3. Give me the Packers +3.5.
SNF Betting Pick: Green Bay Packers +3.5 (DraftKings)
