Sunday Night Football Betting Picks: Washington vs. Philadelphia

Regardless of the outcome between the Giants and the Cowboys, the Washington Football Team will make the playoffs with a victory against the Eagles on Sunday Night. Despite the worst efforts from all four teams, the futile NFC East must send someone to the playoffs. Will the Team sew up a playoff spot? Will the Eagles spoil Washington’s chances? Here is a sports betting preview plus Sunday Night Football betting picks for Washington at Philadelphia.

Sunday Night Football Odds

The current number is quite bloated relative to the opening line. The Football Team opened the week as a 1.5-point favorite. Given the consequence of the outcomes, bettors are pounding the Washington spread at an 85% clip per ScoresandOdds. Bettors are not worried about dreary weather either and seem to favor the over (92% of bets).

* Update: The Sunday Night Football spread stretched to Washington -6.5 after this article was originally published.

Win and They’re In

The Giants and Cowboys will play at 1:00 PM EST with the victor earning the right to intently watch the Sunday Night Football game. The NFC East Scenarios are pretty clear. For the Washington Football Team, barring a tie, they must win to make the playoffs. A loss by Washington would send the winner of the New York and Dallas game to the playoffs. For the Giants, the scenario is especially comical. Going into Sunday, the Giants can either make the playoffs or lose and secure a top-ten pick in the NFL Draft. Jokes aside, the Football Team will clearly be highly motivated to take care of the Eagles on Sunday night.

Return to Strength

The Washington Football team is in this position because of a talented defense (we will get there soon) but will see an infusion of talent return to the offensive side of the football team on Sunday Night. Alex Smith will return to handle the reins while Terry McLaurin intends to play. Antonio Gibson is questionable but should play in the pivotal final game of the season. While Alex Smith does not possess the ability to move the ball downfield, he certainly represents an upgrade from the recently-released Dwayne Haskins.

Terry McLaurin could be the quietest superstar in the NFL in his second year. With all of the chatter surrounding D.K. Metcalf and a phenomenal rookie class, McLaurin is Washington’s best-kept secret. Widely regarded as a polished route runner, McLaurin’s presence will provide a consistent outlet for Alex Smith. Per RotoGrinders’ GridironIQ, Philadelphia allows the sixth-most fantasy points to wide receivers. McLaurin is a strong captain option across daily fantasy contests on Sunday night.

The Philadelphia defense allows a very stingy 4.2 yards per rushing attempt. With or without Antonio Gibson, Alex Smith and his pass-catchers will be busy on Sunday night.

Chasing Greatness

Back to the strength of Washington — the defense. Rookie Chase Young is the heavy favorite (-375) to garner Defensive Rookie of the Year honors and why not? Young forced four fumbles and recovered two in fourteen games in his rookie campaign. With 6.5 sacks, nobody from the 2020 class has made the impact that Young has for his team — offensively or defensively. Rejuvenated, Washinton sits in the top five in both opponent scoring (21 PPG) and yards per play (5.0 yards).

The Football Team will face an Eagles’ side missing a massive volume of talent. Miles Sanders, Desean Jackson, and Dallas Goedert will not suit up for the Birds. Left tackle, Jordan Mailata, will also miss the final game of the season. While showing plenty of upside and talent, Jalen Hurts will be in for a long day against a highly motivated and talented defense.

Washington Football Team vs. Philadelphia Eagles Picks

Certainly, placing a bet on this game should have happened when lines opened. That said, with all of the injuries and very little to play for, I am going to throw my support behind Washington, as well. With any additional news of players sitting, this number will keep climbing. Betting when the numbers are not in our favor is not prudent. That said, unless the number balloons to six or more, I feel pretty comfortable with a Washington ticket.

Give me the Football Team for a runaway victory and an accidental NFC East title.

Jalen Hurts UNDER 210.5 Passing yards (-112 FanDuel)Jalen Hurts will have limited support against one of the best defenses in the NFL. While the Eagles will try to compete early in the game, falling way behind might result in plenty of handoffs to bleed the clock away — on both sides of the ball. I don’t think Hurts can overcome this defense. The loss of his left tackle further complicates issues for the young quarterback. Logan Thomas – First Touchdown Scorer (+1100 DraftKings) – DraftKings Sportsbook is running a promotion for a risk-free bet up to $20 on a first touchdown scorer for tonight’s game. If your selection does not score the first touchdown but scores at some point in the game, DraftKings will award your back up to $20. I love the odds on Logan Thomas relative to his teammates. Give me the tight end against an Eagles’ defense that surrendered 8 touchdowns over the first 16 weeks of the season to the tight end position.
