Thursday Night Football Betting Odds— Los Angeles Chargers at Oakland Raiders

Thursday Night Football Betting Breakdown

Alas! There’s a Thursday Night Football game worthy of anticipation. That’s right. A 4-4 team facing a 4-5 team in Week 10 of the NFL season is the best Thursday Night Football matchup viewers have gotten in over a month. And it’s not just because it’s an AFC West rivalry. It’s a meaningful game between two AFC teams with Wild Card aspirations. Both teams are currently on the outside looking in, and a loss will be a dramatic setback for whoever falls short Thursday night. That’s not what we care about, though. We just want to pick the winner.

Somewhat surprisingly, the Los Angeles Chargers are road favorites against an Oakland team that has exceeded expectations through the first nine weeks.

As Donnie Peters of Sharpside points out at NJ.com, the public is on the Chargers and the spread could be a result of recency bias following their dominant win over the Green Bay Packers. Considering the lookahead line at FanDuel was Oakland -1.5, Peters’ assessment could be right.

Despite that, I’m siding with the Chargers here. Though there’s a handful of names on the Chargers’ injury report, the names aren’t too concerning and Los Angeles is getting healthier every week after suffering significant blows early in the season. Unfortunately for the Raiders, they may be without their top two centers, Rodney Hudson and Andre James, Thursday night.

The Chargers offense looked rejuvenated against the Packers following the firing of OC Ken Whisenhunt last week. Now the Chargers face the No. 29 DVOA pass defense with Keenan Allen, Mike Williams and Hunter Henry all free from injury designations. This spells trouble for the Raiders.

Here are my favorite Monkey Knife Fight plays for Thursday Night Football:

Derek Carr +25.5 Passing Yards vs. Phillip Rivers – Rivers can have his way with the Raiders secondary but a 25.5-yard spread seems too much.

Phillip Rivers Under 300.5 Passing Yards – Again, I think Rivers will have a big game Thursday night, but we project him closer to 280 yards than 300.
