Geolocation

Geolocation is a technology that uses your phones GPS, IP address and available Wi-Fi networks to verify that you are physically located within the borders of New Jersey that is a requirement to place bets on PlayMGM. Geolocation scans the available Wi-Fi networks to triangulate your location when using a computer, or uses the GPS feature on your mobile device. When using a mobile device, you must have your GPS and Wi-Fi turned on but do not have to be connected to a network.

You can make deposits and withdrawals from outside of New Jersey but in order to place a bet, you must be physically located in New Jersey. You do not, however, need to be a New Jersey resident in order to participate.

Bets Offered

PlayMGM covers all the major sports markets and offers all the typical sports wagers such as moneyline, point spreads, totals, futures and parlays up to 10 games. Accepting wagers as low as $1, PlayMGM caters to bankrolls of all sizes. Odds are displayed in the American odds format (+250, -110).

While PlayMGM does offer the popular Ingame betting feature, it is very limited compared to other sites. In game betting is limited to a few select games and is also only offered on constantly updating moneyline and spread bets. We hope to see the live in game feature to expand beyond just moneyline and spread bets in the future.

Where PlayMGM really stands out is their HUGE selection of prop bets. No other NJ online sportsbooks even come close to their prop bet options. For example, in any given NBA game, prop bets are offered in the form of Over/Under on basically every players total points, rebounds and assists. Bets can be placed on who will score first, which team will lead at halftime and much more. In addition to standard future bets like Eastern Conference winner and NBA champions, you can also place bets on who will be regular season MVP.

PlayMGM has an easy to navigate, no nonsense app. Once logged in, you will be brought to the homepage that has your sportsbook and casino balances. Below is a button that takes you to a list of all available sports. In the top left corner is a “Menu” button that slides out all the options for you including pending bets, my account, cashier, settings, sports, and info to help you wager responsibly, terms and conditions, and easy to use help and contact information for the site.

PlayMGM Online Sportsbook Company Information

PlayMGM is the sportsbetting branch of Borgata casino. They are able to operate under Borgatas online gaming license.
Borgata was part of a huge project called the “Tunnel Project” that started in 1999, a plan by casino mogul Steve Wynn to connect a $330 million tunnel from the Atlantic City Expressway to the marina district of Atlantic City, where Wynn planned on building a new casino, Le Jardin. The tunnel was highly controversial as it would have to built through a residential neighborhood, and Le Jardin was scrapped after rival casino owner Donald Trump sued Wynn stating that the tunnel was just a driveway to his new casino.

Despite Le Jardin being scrapped, the tunnel project moved forward. On the grounds that Wynn planned to build, the Borgata was built via a joint venture between MGM Mirage and Boyd Gaming. The Borgata officially opened its doors on July 2nd, 2003. Just 2 years later, with business booming, the Borgata underwent a $200 million expansion and in 2008 opened a second tower hotel called The Water Club.

In 2010, MGM Mirage announced they were selling their 50% ownership after Pansy Ho, part owner of MGM Macau, was barred from New Jersey gaming after showing questionable business practices and ties to organized crime. However in 2014, the NJ gaming commision reversed its decision and allowed MGM back into the states gaming business after Ho’s role was greatly reduced in the company.

In 2016, MGM bought Boyd’s 50% ownership and became sole owners of the property.

Today, the Borgata is a 161,000 square foot gaming facility with 4000 slots, 180 table games and the biggest poker room in New Jersey with a staggering 50 tables. Borgata opened its temporary sportsbook in June 2018 and was the first AC casino to accept a sports wager. With plans to open an $11 million sportsbook by summer 2019, Borgata is sparing no expense in an attempt to be the premier location for sports betting.
