What Vegas Says

Pitcher Grind Down

HOU – Tonight’s games should have a lot less fireworks than last night’s 15-10 game. Jarred Cosart has been very good since coming up to the majors. In his 4 starts, he has only allowed a combined 3 earned runs. He is not a high K pitcher, but he has shown that he can get big leaguers out. I think he draws a tough matchup today though and the Astros often forget to give their pitchers run support. Rating = 3

BOS – I’m mixed on my thoughts about Ryan Dempster. On the season, he has a 4.5 ERA and a 1.5 WHIP which is way too high to have any confidence in. However, he does get a lot of strikeouts, he is averaging over 8 K’s per 9 innings and is facing the team that leads the league in strikeouts. I think he is in play, but expect him to give up a couple runs. Rating = 6

Batter Grind Down

HOU – This could be a sneaky spot for a couple of Astros bats. Not only do the Astros have a good matchup, but no one ever rosters them, so they make for great GPP plays. Jason Castro, Robbie Grossman, and Brett Wallace are all intriguing plays.

BOS – Cosart has been really good, but then again the Red Sox offense is very good. Something has to give. I expect the Red Sox to do some damage tonight, but doubt they will be able to repeat last night’s performance.

What Vegas Says

Pitcher Grind Down

STL – The Cardinals snapped the Dodgers road winnings streak last night and will look to make it two in a row. Shelby Miller has been very good at home this season with a 1.72 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP. Those are numbers that you can have confidence in. The Dodgers offense has been very good lately, but look for Miller to work his way through it and pick up some K’s in the bottom of that lineup. Rating = 7

LAD – Nothing against Ricky Nolasco, but if I have a hard taking Kershaw against the Cardinals, I’m definitely going to have a hard time taking Nolasco against them. The Cardinals have such a stacked offense that pitchers don’t really get a break when facing them. Rating = 4

Batter Grind Down

STLMatt Holliday and David Freese both have great BvP numbers against Nolasco to back up their cause tonight. I also like both Allen Craig and Matt Carpenter, they are both priced a bit lower than they typically are so now is your chance to get them at a discount.

LAD – Miller has been really good against right hand bats, but has given up a .269 to lefties so if you are thinking about taking a Dodgers player, you will probably want to have it be Crawford or Gonzalez.

What Vegas Says

Pitcher Grind Down

ARIRandall Delgado has posted some respectable numbers this season with a 3.17 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. I would like to see a bit more consistency out of him though as his last 5 starts he has given up 3, 3, 0, 0, and 4 earned runs. Until he can prove to be more consistent, I’m going to pass on him. Rating = 4

TB – Chris Archer has been quite a surprise to most of us this season. He has a 2.65 ERA and a very impressive 1.09 WHIP. He’s been able to find success both at home and on the road. I wouldn’t pay top dollar for him tonight as he is pitching in a hitter friendly park, but I think he is a good option if he is priced in that middle tier. Rating = 7

Batter Grind Down

ARI – The D-backs have never faced Archer before so I think they could have some struggles, at least the first time through the lineup anyway. I think Archer pitches well, but you can’t ever count out Paul Goldschmidt who is batting .301 with 17 HR’s against right hand pitchers.

TB – The Rays offense got stifled by Miley last night, but I think they bounce back tonight against Delgado. You have to love Longoria in a hitter’s park and both Ben Zobrist and James Loney will have the lefty/righty splits in their favor.

What Vegas Says

Pitcher Grind Down

LAATommy Hanson has had a rough season, not only on the field, but off as well. I think now that things are settling down for him, he will finish out the season with much better numbers. All that being said, the Rangers are not a matchup that you want to take a pitcher against. Rating = 3

TEX – Alexi Ogando seems to pitch well when I think he is going to get blown up. Then he doesn’t pitch well when I expect him to. This happens to me a lot during the NBA season too. Anyway, Ogando has a very tough matchup against the Angels tonight so I expect him to have a rough night. Rating = 4

Batter Grind Down

LAAMike Trout is always in play when he is facing an average pitcher. Doesn’t matter which park it is in or if he is facing a lefty or a righty, he is just that good. I love the matchup for both him and Josh Hamilton tonight.

TEX – Hanson has really had a tough season and that could continue tonight against the Rangers who are rolling right now. Hanson is giving up an OPS of .876 to left hand bats so leadoff man Leonys Martin looks to be in for a big night as does catcher A.J. Pierzynkski. Adrian Beltre and Elvis Andrus are also in play.

What Vegas Says

Pitcher Grind Down

SF – I think Bumgarner is my favorite pitcher of all the night games. He has been lights out at home with a 2.25 ERA this season. He draws a great matchup in the very shorthanded Brewers. The only problem is that when you take a Giants pitcher, you are rolling the dice on whether or not they get any run support. Rating = 10

MILMarco Estrada has a 5.32 ERA this season and is making a spot start tonight. Usually not a recipe for success. Rating = 2

Batter Grind Down

SF – I think that the Giants bats come alive tonight against Estrada. With the over under at 7 and the Giants being this big of favorites, Vegas expect some runs from them as well. Pablo Sandoval, Hunter Pence, and Buster Posey are all in play.

MIL – I think the Brewers get blanked tonight by Bumgarner so there is no reason to take any of their hitters.
