NBA Player Props, January 1, 2023
- Jayson Tatum o41.5 points + rebounds + assists
- Jaylen Brown o26.5 points
- Nikola Jokic o45.5 points + rebounds + assists
Jayson Tatum o41.5 points + rebounds + assists (-120)
During the month of December, Jayson Tatum averaged 30.1 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. Per EdgHouse, Tatum has eclipsed this market number in 18-of-34 games this season (52.9% hit-rate), including 10-of-18 games played since November 21 (55.6% hit-rate), and 5-of-7 games since December 13 (71.4% hit-rate). Though the Denver Nuggets are one of the best teams in basketball, they rank only 18th in defensive efficiency across their last 14 contests. In that span, they are 23rd in opponent field-goal percentage, and 29th in opponent assists per game. Tatum should have high volume once again in this spot, and should have a great chance to cash the over.
Jaylen Brown o26.5 points (-120)
The Denver Nuggets rightfully have a reputation as one of the most formidable teams in the NBA. However, they ranked only 18th in defensive efficiency during December, and were particularly ineffective defending the perimeter. During that time period, they were 23rd in opponent field-goal percentage, 26th in opponent three-point percentage, and 14th in opponent free-throw attempts per game. Jaylen Brown enters play 12th in the NBA in scoring, averaging 27.0 points per game after averaging 28.4 points per game across the last month. Expect him to be heavily involved this evening, and for him to have plenty of opportunity from beyond-the-arc to cash the over in this spot.
Nikola Jokic o45.5 points + rebounds + assists (-120)
In Nikola Jokic’s last 11 games, he has eclipsed this market number seven times, according to EdgHouse. In that stretch, he has two near-misses, amassing 44 points-rebounds-assists against the Los Angeles Lakers and 43 points-rebounds-assists against the Miami Heat. Boston is a strong defensive team, but they are at their weakest in the paint, where they are allowing opposing players to shoot 45.7% this year – ranking 27th in the NBA. Jokic is attempting 11.7 field goal attempts per game in the restricted area and the paint (non-restricted area). Expect him to be a difficult matchup for the Celtics on Sunday.
