NBA Player Props, February 2, 2023

Ja Morant u8.5 assists (+115), DraftKings

Across his last four games, Ja Morant has four double-doubles, with at least 11 assists in each game. However, that streak is likely to come to an end this evening against a Cleveland Cavaliers defense that allowed the fewest opponent assists per game of any team in the NBA during the month of January. Playing on zero days rest this year, Morant has only eclipsed six assists in a game one time. At plus-money, the under is a worthwhile risk for bettors here.

Tyrese Haliburton o17.5 points (-102), FanDuel

According to Dustin Dopirak of the Indianapolis Star, Tyrese Haliburton practiced on Tuesday and Wednesday, and is likely to return to the floor for Thursday’s action against the Los Angeles Lakers. Considering the fact that he practiced each of the last two days leading up to tonight’s game, it is relatively safe to assume that Haliburton will not face a minutes restriction in his return. In 40 games prior to injury, Haliburton had cleared this market number in 24 of 40 games played, including 15 of 22 home games. Expect him to have a strong performance this evening in his first game action since January 11.

Donovan Mitchell o25.5 points (-110), MGM

Entering play, Donovan Mitchell has only eclipsed this number in two of his last nine games. Yet, he was injured in one of those contests and left after playing only 22 minutes. In his return from injury, he took 24 shots, but was inefficient from the floor – perhaps slightly rusty after over a week on the sidelines. This past Sunday, he was kept off of the court for the majority of the second half in a blowout victory over the Los Angeles Clippers. On Tuesday, he attempted 17 shots, but had only 16 points against an elite Miami Heat defense. This evening, Mitchell has a much more favorable matchup against a Memphis Grizzlies team that ranks 17th in defensive efficiency, 20th in opponent three-point attempts, and 28th in opponent three-point percentage across their last five games without Steven Adams. Mitchell’s struggles have been due primarily to inefficiency rather than a lack of volume. If he can simply hit his shots tonight, he will have a great opportunity to cash the over on his points prop for bettors.
