DFS Tournament Report: NFL Week 12

Sometimes DFS players are just plain greedy and have to win ALL the money. Such was the case in NFL Week 12 as two players would take down two of the three flagship tournaments on both DraftKings and FanDuel. Travman8 would dominate over on DraftKings winning both the Millionaire and the Play-Action while hctrucker89 would leave the competition behind on FanDuel taking down the Million and Rush. Two notable DFS’ers in rikkidee and aejones would take down the other two major contests.

Here’s a quick review of the action including standings and winning lineups.

DraftKings NFL $4M Millionaire ($1M to First) and $1.2M Play-Action

It wasn’t even close… not only did travman8 win two major GPPs and over a million dollars, he crushed the competition in doing so. In the Millionaire, he was over 16 points in front of the runner up. That margin would be over 10 in the Play-Action. He actually would need a player in the Sunday Night game in order to achieve this but it was the right player in Emmanuel Sanders as the Broncos WR put up 32.2 fpts at low ownership. Add in Colin Kaepernick 37fpts, Mark Ingram 32.7 fpts (at <1% ownership), 20+ fpts from the Giants defense, and 30+ fpts from David Johnson and Mike Evans and it’s easy to see why he so significantly outpace the competition. Here’s a look at the standings from these two contests and the winning lineup:

DraftKings NFL $1.4M Wildcat

Travman8 decided to leave the Wildcat to the big spenders and rikkidee would take advantage of that. He would be able to withstand a dismal 2.8 fpt performance from Jermaine Kearse thanks to big days from a Saints stack of Drew Brees and Micheal Thomas. He paired those two with Mike Evans, David Johnson, Carlos Hyde, and Travis Kelce to edge out a tough field that included RotoGrinders.com’s own Notorious in 10th place and four top ten finishes (including 2nd place) from cubasugar1.

FanDuel $1.25M Sunday Million ($200K to 1st) and $800K Sling TV Rush ($100K to 1st)

While the margin of victory wasn’t quite as dominant as Travman8 on DK, hctrucker89 would still win easily in the Sunday Million and Sling TV Rush on FanDuel with a 8+ point margin of victory in the Million and a 5+ point margin in the TV Rush. He too would need a player in the Sunday Night game to take over the top spot and it was the 15 points from the Chiefs DST (thanks in part to Tyreke Hill who had a huge 3 TD outing himself) that would move his lineup into the top spot. The rest of his lineup consisted of the Brees/Thomas stack paired with Saints RB Mark Ingram (who put up a monster 29.2 fpt performance). David Johnson and Mike Evans would be the two other big performers contributing to his final score of 191.7.

FanDuel $600K Monster ($100K to 1st)

While it’s not the five million he won at the DraftKings live NFL final last year, aejones certainly won’t complain about another six-figure payday. The top-ranked DFS player added to his impressive resume taking down the Monster with a Colin Kaepernick led lineup. He too would have David Johnson and Mike Evans (as did most winning lineups) but would pair those two with lesser owned options like LeSean McCoy and the Chargers DST. He’d also trail heading into Sunday Night but would ride Emmanuel Sanders big night (25.7 fpts at 1.8% ownership) to the top.
