Friday, May 25th

Welcome to a Friday night that is heavily slanted towards pitching. We’ve got a load of aces highlighted by Max Scherzer against the Marlins. Outside of the return of Coors Field, the offense is sparse, or at last tough to nail down. I could make some case to play most of these pitchers, but I’ll try keep it a narrowed down as possible.

FRIDAY NIGHT PITCHING

SIX ACE FRIDAY, CUTTING TO FIVE ACE FRIDAY

We have a loaded top end tonight with at least six aces, and a few more that can make a case to be included in the ace tier as well. Let’s start with these six, and see how to separate them. The stats below are their numbers for the 2018 so far.

Max Scherzer at Miami – 40.9% K, 6.3 BB, 50% FB, 1.78 ERA, 2.05 SIERA
Noah Syndergaard at Milwaukee – 27.8% K, 5.3% BB, 47% GB, 2.91 ERA, 3.00 SIERA
Corey Kluber vs Houston – 26.0% K, 3.7% BB, 48% GB, 2.36 ERA, 3.04 SIERA
James Paxton vs Minnesota – 31.5% K, 8.0% BB, 47% FB, 3.30 ERA, 3.13 SIERA
Luis Severino vs LA Angels – 30.0% K, 6.3% BB, 48% GB, 2.35 ERA, 2.94 SIERA
Patrick Corbin at Oakland – 33.3% K, 7.4% BB, 48% GB, 2.60 ERA, 2.75 SIERA

Wow, that is an impressive group of pitchers all with elite skill sets. On a lot of slates, any one of these guys would be the top option. For tonight, as great as they all are, it’s clearly Max Scherzer way on top of the list.
