MLB $500K Super Fastball Review: Tuesday, May 17th
The Grinder review series will provide the reader with a breakdown of the exposures of “top of the leaderboard” players, the top single-entry lineup, and a comparison between all single entry lineups and professionals for large slate and massive prize pool GPPs.
Today we looked at the $500K Super Fastball [$100K to 1st] on DraftKings with a buy-in of $33.
Multi-Entry Grinders of the Game
Over 100 entries, Assani kept his ownership levels low across the board and relied on a combination of value plays in order to find the perfect roster instead of leaning heavily on any one player (besides Tommy Joseph). He managed to place 20th and 26th with an above-average cash rate of 35%, but missed out on Khris Davis, who may have been able to put him over the edge into the big money.
With only 9 entries, EmpireMaker2 defined a tight core of pitchers, Tommy Joseph, Jorge Polanco, and ran an assortment of value plays from there. While he avoided stacking any one team in particular, he landed a 52nd placing enroute to a 44.4% cash rate.
STLCardinals84 followed along the chalk with pitching which managed to give him a very solid core of points, while stacking ATL and MIN against mediocre pitching allowed him to cash at a 75% rate. But without wide ranging exposure and hitting on the likes of Khris Davis, Nelson Cruz, Evan Gattis, etc left him without a big score.
Single-Entry Winner of the Game
Werdgreb31 anchored his lineup with a solid performance from Clayton Kershaw, saved some additional money by using Juan Nicasio, and mixed and matched batters to his liking. While playing some chalk plays in Tommy Joseph, Miguel Sano, and Jorge Polanco, he also found gems in Robinson Cano, Evan Gattis, and Nelson Cruz.
Single-Entry vs. Assani/EmpireMaker2/STLCardinals84
Out of 17,415 entries in the $500k Super Fastball, 3482 of those entries (20%) were entered courtesy of players using a single bullet. The table below compares the exposures of those single entries to the exposures of Assani, EmpireMaker2, STLCardinals84, and 25 other top professionals picked off of RotoGrinders’ leaderboard:
