MLB Daily Grind Down June 5th

The RotoGrinders MLB Grind Down article will give you an in-depth analysis into the MLB schedule. This article will break down the numbers for every single game and give you analysis on which trends you can exploit.
While matchups are a major factor in daily fantasy baseball, there are plenty of other factors to consider such as injuries, weather, and salaries. The analysis should point you in the right direction, but it is still up to you to decipher the information and make your own selections. No sport has more variance than baseball. The best choice is not always the right choice but following the trends will win you money over time. (any fp listed uses Fanduel’s scoring system)
Wednesdays are always nice because we get a few day games to keep us entertained and then we still have 9 games on the schedule for tonight which is a pretty solid number. Today’s Grind Down will break down the matchups as usual and I’d like to open up a question and answer if anyone has any lineup questions. Feel free to leave a comment and I will give you my opinion (even though you may regret asking it).

Pitchers
- Home Julio Teheran has pitched pretty well lately. His K rate at home is pretty decent and his matchup against the Pirates is juicy. I don’t think he is going to have a huge game, but you can probably expect 6 strong innings with 5 K’s and one or two earned runs. In Play
- Away Wandy Rodriguez has been a very different pitcher when he is away from home. His ERA on the road this season is around 6.0 and his WHIP is almost double that of his WHIP at home. He has a tough matchup against the Braves who seem to be heating up. I mean even B.J. Upton is hitting right now. Avoid
Batters
- Home The Braves bats haven’t had much success against Wandy in the past, but I think they rough him up a bit today. Chris Johnson and Evan Gattis are the two guys to target in this one, both are good against lefties and are batting 3rd and 5th in the lineup.
- Away The Pirates got a hold of Teheran in their last matchup, but I just don’t think you can rely on any of their bats not named Andrew McCutchen. He is a decent option, but the rest of the team I am taking a pass on.

Pitchers
- Home Cole Hamels just can’t get it together. His WHIP of 1.338 is the highest it’s been in many many years and his struggles at home are a bit baffling. The good news for him is that he is facing the Marlins who are the one team he has had some success against this season. In 3 starts this year, he has posted a 2.25 ERA with 21 K’s over 20 innings. I still don’t love him, but he’s a good option. Target
- Away Jacob Turner really pitched well in his first start this season shutting out the Mets over 7 innings while striking 3 batters out. But I’m not sold on him until he proves he can keep pitching well. The Phillies bats have been hot lately and I am going to side with them. Avoid
Batters
- Home Domonic Brown finally had a bad game gong 0-5 last night, but that doesn’t mean that his hot streak is over. He is really swinging the bat well and I think makes a great option today against the unproven Turner. I also like Ryan Howard, he has been producing and his price is still so low across all sites.
- Away The Marlins bats haven’t been a bad option lately. Marcell Ozuna seems to score a few fantasy points every single night. This could be a sneaky spot to play a couple of guys against Hamels as he has been bad. I don’t think I have the guts to do it, but the matchup isn’t bad.
Cleveland at NY Yankees

Pitchers
- Home CC Sabathia came up huge in his last start against the Red Sox who he has had struggles against in the past. At the end of the day, CC is always in play at home. He is a high strikeout pitcher that can give you 120 pitches on any given day. I don’t love the matchup against Cleveland, but I love CC at home. Target
- Away Corey Kluber hasn’t gotten rocked in a few games and I think this could be a really tough spot for him. Lefties have hit over .300 against Kluber in his career and the Yankees are full of left handed bats, I mean full of them. Avoid
Batters
- Home Mark Teixeira has 2 games in a row with HR’s and is a good option if his price hasn’t risen yet. I also like the leadoff man Brett Gardner and the super cheap Ichiro Suzuki who keeps producing. It would be easy to say it’s a great spot for Robinson Cano as well, but he is slumping and I think I will wait for him to come out of it.
- Away A few of the Indians have some decent averages against CC, but so did the Red Sox and CC shut them down. I think CC is finally hitting his stride and I don’t trust any of those bats against him.
Oakland at Milwaukee

Pitchers
- Home I love the matchup between these two teams. More for the offense than for the pitching though. Yovani Gallardo gets the start today and I have been avoiding this guy all season for a reason, he just hasn’t been very good and he hasn’t been able to K as many batters as he has in the past. Tough matchup against OAK that could go either way. Avoid
- Away Bartolo Colon has been great in his last three starts only allowing a combined 2 earned runs while striking out 15 batters over 23 innings. Tough spot for him today in Milwaukee though. Plus, he has a suspension looming over his head. I think it’s the safe call to avoid him today. Avoid
Batters
- Home Yes Colon has been good, but the Brewers offense is going to start heating up here soon and I think today could be that day. I love Aoki and Segura today, both should get on base and let Carlos Gomez knock them in. Also, Logan Schafer is batting 5th today, could be in line for a big game.
- Away I really like the spot for the A’s. Gallardo has been struggling mightily lately and the A’s bats have been hot. Gallardo is allowing righties to bat .312 off of him this season so I think both the left and right hand bats are in play. Yoenis Cespedes is my favorite play though.

Pitchers
- Home I never would have thought that last night’s pitching matchup would yield 10 runs, but hey that’s baseball for you. I think this one will be a little more low scoring, especially for the White Sox. Hisashi Iwakuma has been a beast all season long and has an ERA of only 1.34 at home while averaging 9 K’s per 9 innings. And get this, a 0.594 WHIP at home! Love Iwakuma today. Target
- Away Dylan Axelrod isn’t a bad pitcher, but when it comes to fantasy baseball, he is irrelevant. ERA of 5.0 on the road, big underdog, not a high K pitcher. Avoid
Batters
- Home I don’t expect there to be many fireworks in this one, but the M’s bats are in a decent spot. Nick Franklin is my favorite choice here thanks to his low price tag across the board. Kendrys Morales has also been hot and should be on your radar.
- Away Just stay away from the White Sox bats at this point.
