MLB Daily Grind Down May 24th

The RotoGrinders MLB Grind Down article will give you an in-depth analysis into the MLB schedule. This article will break down the numbers for every single game and give you analysis on which trends you can exploit.
While matchups are a major factor in daily fantasy baseball, there are plenty of other factors to consider such as injuries, weather, and salaries. The analysis should point you in the right direction, but it is still up to you to decipher the information and make your own selections. No sport has more variance than baseball. The best choice is not always the right choice but following the trends will win you money over time. (any fp listed uses Fanduel’s scoring system)
It Is Friday. I do not need to tell you what an important day it is. Pitching seems to be at a premium tonight with very few legitimate Aces going. The few Aces that we have going have tougher than average matchups as well. I have been in the top 20 in 3 out of the last for DFBC qualifiers and will try to continue that run again today. Good luck. I hope the Grinders dominate these qualifiers yet again tonight but I am sure that we will. Here is today’s Daily Grind Down to get you ready for another fantastic night.

Pitchers
- Home Anibal Sanchez got hammered in his last start in TEX but Arlington can be an unforgiving park when the winds are blowing out. He has been DET best pitcher on the year and is huge favorite in this game. The OU is high so he most likely will surrender some runs but he seems to be a lock to get the win and should get more than enough Ks to offset the damage. MIN is batting .241 on the road, .243 versus right-handers, and .233 over the last 7 days. Their batter have the 13th most Ks in the league. Target
- Away Samuel Deduno had an awesome run in the WBC. He was servacable for the twins last year with a 4.44 ERA and 6.5 K/9. I am not buying into his success in an exhibition series and do not trust him today on the road against the best home team in baseball. DET is batting .312 at home, .282 versus right-handers, and .293 over the last 7 days. Their batters have the 23rd most KS in the league. Avoid
Batters
- Home If you believe in taking players that are hot then how does Miguel Cabrera ‘s 60.5 fp over the last week strike you? He is also batting .402 at home. There are too many positive numbers for DET to list so go ahead and…….Gentleman start your DET stacks.
- Away Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau have positive BvPs versus Sanchez. Josh Willingham has been hot producing 22.25 fp over the last 7 days. He had 2 HRs yesterday.

Las Vegas
- OU 7
- Favored WAS -170
Pitchers
- Home Jordan Zimmermann is pitching better than any one. He is an even better pitcher at home where his ERA is a 1.24. The low OU in the big vote of confidence make him auto-target. His K/9 number is a little low. There will be players with more upside but Zimmermann should end up in atleast 1 of your LUs today. PHI is batting .250 on the road, .246 versus right-handers, and .268 over the last 7 days. The rank 18th in the league in Ks. Target
- Away Kyle Kendrick is like the lighter version of Jordan Zimmermann. He is the same kind of pitcher with a low ERA and WHIP but not enough Ks to make him a legit ace in daily fantasy. He has been fantastic on the road with a 1.20 ERA but WAS has had great success versus him in the past. WAS is batting .237 at home, .237 versus right-handers, and .194 over the last 7 days. They have the 5th most Ks in the league. I love him as a nice against the grain pick in a GPP. In Play
Batters
- Home Ian Desmond is 10-23 with 2 HR versus Kendrick. Bryce Harper is 6-12 with 1 HR and batting .340 versus right-handed pitching. Ryan Zimmerman is 10-33 versus him with 1 HR and has been hot producing 21 fp over the last 7 days.
- Away If you are playing the fade then Ryan Howard has 1 HR in 9 AB versus Zimmermann. Domonic Brown has been hot producing 19.25 fp.

BAL BvP | BAL vs L | TOR BvP | TOR vs R
| Note: Batter Splits Above Open in Pop Up Window | |||||||
Las Vegas
- OU 9
- Favored BAL -113
Pitchers
- Home Sean Nolin has been a K per inning guy in the minors but the scouting report on him is that he does not have overpowering stuff so do not expect a bunch of Ks in his first start. He does have good location and he cannot be worse than Ramon Ortiz. I do not see the upside in playing him outside of the fact that he will be cheap. BAL is batting .273 on the road, .242 versus left-handers, and .295 over the last 7 days.
- Away Chris Tillman has been spectacular outside of BAL. His road ERA is a 1.86. However, TOR is a hitter’s park also so I think we will see a number closer to his 4.46 home ERA considering the fact that TOR hits the ball hard at home. TOR is batting .251 at home, .243 versus right-handers, and .227 over the last 7 days. Their batters have the 15th most Ks in the league. The OU is too high and there are most safer options. Avoid
Batters
- Home Jose Bautista is 4-12 with 2 HRs versus Tillman. He is also batting .350 at home and is hot producing 27.25 fp over the last 7 days. Edwin Encarnacion is equally as hot producing 26.25 fp over the last 7 days. Adam Lind is batting .275 versus right-handers and has positive BvPs versus Tillman.
- Away Gentleman Start your BAL stacks. Chris Davis, Adam Jones, Nate McLouth will not play), Chris Dickerson, and Nick Markakis have all been hot. Steve Pierce makes a nice value play and should get the start.

Las Vegas
- OU 8.5
- Favored TAM -113
Pitchers
- Home Roberto Hernandez has been pretty darn good at home with a 2.92 ERA. His K/9 is over 9 there also if you want to gamble in a GPP. Hard to trust him against this heavily left-handed NYY team, though. NYY is batting .244 on the road, .258 versus right-handers, and .223 over the last 7 days. Their batters have the 22nd most Ks in the league. Avoid
- Away David Phelps is very quietly having a great year with a 3.83 ERA and decent K/9. The BvP numbers are low but he has had great success versus TAM holding them to a .156 BAA. TAM is batting .268 at home, .252 versus right-handers, and .269 over the last 7 days. Their batters have the 24th most Ks in the league. In Play
Batters
- Home Matt Loyce has been hot producing 27 fp over the last week and draws the traditional splits in his favor. Kelly Johnson has been hot also with 22.25 fp and gains those same splits. It is never a bad idea to play Evan Longoria. Ben Zobrist has the only positive BvPs versus Phelps. He is 2-4 with 2 2Bs.
- Away Robinson Cano is 11-23 versus Hernandez and has been hot producing 21.5 fp over the last 7 days. Curtis Granderson is 17-39 with 3 HRs vs him as well. Ichiro Suzuki is 7-23 with 1 HR. You have to like all of the NYY left-handed bats today.

CLE BvP | CLE vs R | BOS BvP | BOS vs R
| Note: Batter Splits Above Open in Pop Up Window | |||||||
Las Vegas
- OU 9
- Favored BOS -115
Pitchers
- Home John Lackey been as close to unhittable as you can expect this year at home. His ERA is a very low 1.38 and his K/9 is just under 9. CLE has been real hot , however. CLE is batting .280 on the road, .260 versus right-handers, and .285 over the last 7 days. Their batters have the 6th most Ks in the league. In Play
- Away Justin Masterson has made a big leap in production this year. His numbers are indicative of an ace. I am skeptical to believe that he will maintain this high pace but right now he has a 2.83 ERA and 9.13 K/9 which is much higher than the 28 year old’s career averages of a 4.07 ERA and 7.23 K/9. BOS is batting .266 at home, .273 versus right-handers and .239 over the last 7 days. Their batters have the 3rd most Ks in the league. In Play
Batters
- Home Jacoby Elisbury, Mike Napoli, Daniel Nava and Shane Victorino all have positive BvPs versus Masterson but no one’s numbers are overwhelming. Pedroia and Nava have both been hot producing 23 fp each over the last 7 days.
- Away Jason Giambi is 13-37 with 3 HRs versus Lackey. Michael Bourn has been hot producing 29 fp. Yan Gomes has also been hot producing 27.5 fp. Both are batting over .300 versus right-handers.
