Pitcher Grind Down
- Derek Holland – Right now, I am not taking any pitchers against this A’s team. After seeing what they did to the Tigers starters, they have me wanting to stay far away from taking a pitcher against them. Holland is a very solid pitcher, but his price tag is a bit too high for what he offers today. Starting Rating = 5
- Dan Straily – Straily has a decent K rate of 7 per 9 innings, but he hasn’t really had many dominant games. He’s only lasted 7 innings once in his last 5 starts and faces a tough Rangers team today. Starting Rating = 4
Batter Grind Down
OAK – Holland has had his way with the A’s for the most part, but Josh Donaldson is 5/11 against him with a HR and two doubles. Coco Crisp is swinging a hot bat as well and has shown some pop in his bat the last week.
TEX – The Rangers have such a good lineup, pitchers have no breaks when they face the Rangers. I think guys like Beltre and Kinsler are a bit overpriced for their matchup, but guys like Leonys Martin and A.J. Pierzynski are good plays.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Todd Redmond – Redmond has an ERA over 7 on the road this season. Not only that, but he is facing a D-Backs offense that can really put some runs up on the board. Starting Rating = 3
- Brandon McCarthy – McCarthy finally had a good start, cheers cheers cheers, the crowd goes wild! OK, so it was against the Padres, but hey that’s a step in the right direction, he’s been a good pitcher over the last couple seasons. I think he is at a very tempting price tag on most sites and could be worth a shot in the GPP’s. Starting Rating = 5
Batter Grind Down
ARI – There are 4 hitters that usually are on my radar when the D-Backs have a good matchup: Paul Goldschmidt, Martin Prado, Aaron Hill, and Adam Eaton. Hard to make an argument against any of them today.
TOR – McCarthy only has one good start under his belt and could certainly get rocked by this Blue Jays team. Jose Reyes, Adam Lind, and Edwin Encarnacion are all really good against right hand pitching.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Clayton Kershaw – This same matchup happened earlier in the season and sticking to my guns about not taking pitchers in Coors Field, I avoided Kershaw. He went out and threw a gem and I was left kicking myself. I hate to have to do it again, but if you set a rule for yourself, you have to stick to your guns. I’m not taking Kershaw and I’m hoping for the best. Starting Rating = 6
- Chad Bettis – High ERA, low K rate, pitching in Coors against a very good offense. No thank you. Starting Rating = 1
Batter Grind Down
COL – I’m treating this game the same as the Orioles/Mariners game. I’m not going to take the starting pitcher and I’m not going to take any hitters against him. I could see it going either way and it’s best just to avoid when you don’t know what to expect.
LAD – Stack, mini-stack, partial stack, deposit bonus! The Dodgers are my favorite offense today. Playing in Coors Field against a bad pitcher will typically do the trick.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Stephen Strasburg – Strasburg has been a tale of two pitchers this year. A dominant one at home and a very hittable one on the road. The burg has a 4.98 ERA on the road with a 1.35 WHIP, not very good numbers. Today he faces the Phillies and even though he has struggled on the road, I think he is a great play today and here is why: He has faced the Phillies twice this season and is 2-0 with 19 K’s over 17 innings pitched against them. And get this, 0 earned runs. Starting Rating = 8
- Cole Hamels – Hamels has really put it together. Since the All-Star Break, he has a 2.53 ERA. He is facing a Nationals team that is awful against left hand pitching. Both pitchers are good plays, which one is going to get the win? Starting Rating = 8
Batter Grind Down
PHI/WAS – Two great pitchers with good success against the team they are facing. Don’t target the bats in this one.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Chris Archer – Archer just faced this Angels team and picked up the win in 7 strong innings while only allowing one earned run. This game will be played in LA, but the Rays are a much better team that the Angels. Archer won’t be very highly owned today so he makes a great GPP option. Starting Rating = 6
- Garrett Richards – Richards has a 4.16 ERA and a 1.3 WHIP on the season. Very pedestrian numbers. He’s facing a tough Rays lineup. Starting Rating = 3
Batter Grind Down
LAA – Mike Trout seems to be the only Angels hitter that really cares anymore. Archer has been worse against lefties, but I don’t think there are many great options here.
TB – I like David Dejesus leading off for the Rays, he has come to the team ready to play and seems like he really has something to prove.
