Covering the Bases: Saturday, July 15

STLCardinals84, one of the best tournament players in the game, is here to cover the bases for the upcoming MLB DFS slate. Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Cards has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks.
The major league baseball schedule is welcoming us back from the All Star break with a doozy of a slate today. We had one doubleheader previously scheduled. We had one added by virtue of the TB/KC game getting postponed on Friday. The Nationals and Cardinals are also playing one after last night’s game was suspended in the bottom of the third inning. That gives us a full 15-game slate plus three added doubleheader games today. It shall be a busy Saturday!
This Saturday slate is somewhat unusual in that it is more tilted toward night games. There are only five games that start during the day, and everything else will be contested later.
Both FanDuel and DraftKings are offering a four-game early slate, but there are some differences. FD is excluding the CLE/TEX game, while DK is excluding Game 1 of the TB/KC doubleheader.
DraftKings is offering a 12-game night slate, while FanDuel is excluding Game 2 of the SD/PHI and TB/KC doubleheaders to give us a 10-game night slate over there.
Oh… and weather might end up being a problem yet again today. Kevin Roth’s early forecast calls for quite a few trouble spots. Those are all related to the night slate, so I will address this more once we get to that breakdown.
Clear as mud? Sure! Let’s start with some notes for the smaller early slates before digging in to the main course.
Saturday Afternoon Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings

Pitching. Pitching. Pitching. The five afternoon games are loaded with strong arms today, so be ready to roster an ace!
Kevin Gausman vs. Diamondbacks SCRATCHED
Zac Gallen vs. Blue Jays
Tyler Glasnow vs. Royals (FD Only)
James Paxton vs. Cubs
Marcus Stroman vs. Red Sox
Blake Snell vs. Phillies
Andrew Heaney vs. Guardians (DK Only)
Gavin Williams vs. Rangers (DK Only)
That’s eight pitchers that I just listed there, and there are only ten arms this afternoon. You could probably make a case for Ranger Suarez, too. He is starting Game 1 for PHI even though DK still has Taijuan Walker listed as of the time I am writing this. However, I am not going to trust Suarez in a hitters’ park against the Padres. After a very strong start to the summer, Suarez faded over his last few outings before the break.
Let’s take a peek at the data for this other large group of pitchers:
