Covering The Bases: MLB DFS Picks Today for Tuesday 6/23

Long-time grinder Justin Van Zuiden (aka stlcardinals84) is here to cover the bases for the upcoming MLB DFS slate on DraftKings and FanDuel. Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Justin has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his favorite MLB DFS picks today on June 23, 2026.
Happy Tuesday, everyone! Cheese will be back with you tomorrow, but I will be filling in for you on this fine day. We have a 9-game slate on both sites, which is a bit smaller than usual for a Tuesday. There are quite a few games that start at 6:40 or 6:45 PM ET, and both sites have elected to keep those games off the slate to start things at the usual 7:10 PM ET.
As was the case yesterday, we will have to keep an eye on the MLB weather, with today’s big concern coming in Minnesota for the LAD/MIN matchup. There is also a chance of New York being an issue again for the CHC/NYM game, but it looks like the rain should clear out before first pitch, and they would likely wait it out even if the rain hangs around a little longer than expected. I doubt the Cubs want to see 3 of their games in a row get canned. Keep an eye on these situations as we get closer to lineup lock.
Let’s dive in and see what this Tuesday slate has to offer!

SEARCHING FOR ACES

All kidding aside, we just don’t have much at the top end of the pitching ledger. I can see why Cheese wanted the day off. It’s not pretty at pitcher, folks.
- Parker Messick at White Sox
This is what we have: Parker Messick. I originally had Joe Ryan in here as well, but he has been scratched due to illness and wouldn’t have been an elite option against the Dodgers in any case. This isn’t shade against Messick by any means, but this could be the worst slate of 9+ games for top-tier pitching that we have seen all season.
If you want to play Messick, I am completely fine with it. While the White Sox have solid metrics against LHP this season, they have also been scuffling a little bit over the past couple of weeks. They also have a 24.8% strikeout rate against LHP this season, which puts them with the 7th-highest mark in the league. Messick has a solid 2.70 ERA and 3.43 xFIP to go along with a 26.4% strikeout rate of his own, though he hasn’t been quite as sharp in 3 starts in June. I do like him as the overall SP1 considering his relative safety and ceiling, but I do not think he reaches must-play status. I am totally fine with going cheap at pitcher if you want to take that path to spend up on bats.
Let’s move to break down that large secondary tier before drawing any final conclusions.
SECONDARY ARMS

- Justin Wrobleski at Twins
- Sonny Gray at Rockies
- Eduardo Rodriguez at Cardinals
- Shane Baz at Angels
- Edward Cabrera at Mets
- Robbie Ray vs. Athletics
- Sean Burke vs. Guardians
- JR Ritchie at Padres
