MLB DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for Wednesday, May 22
Who is your favorite hitter to spend up for in cash games?
squirrelpatrol: Kyle Schwarber
stevietpfl: Bryce Harper (FD) / Shohei Ohtani (DK)
TheLuuch: Bryce Harper (FD) / Shohei Ohtani (DK)
Alex Sonty: Juan Soto (FD) / Shohei Ohtani (DK)
Who is your favorite sneaky stack on the board and why?
squirrelpatrol: Mariners – The Mariners are a team we like to pick on for strikeouts, but they have upside on offense as well, particularly with the 11th-best ISO in the league against LHP. They get a boost for their offense any time they’re on the road, and MLB park factors ranks Yankee Stadium as the 4th-best park in the majors for home runs. Julio Rodriguez (.361), Mitch Garver (.409), and Dylan Moore (.370) all have wOBAs above .360 vs. LHP since the start of last season.
stevietpfl: Reds – When Michael King is pitching well, he’s an above-average pitcher. He tends to struggle with command though, and he’s one of my favorite pitchers to play and stack against. I could see this going either way with the heavy-strikeout Reds, but they have a lot of speed and power. This is a great ballpark for home runs, and the Reds shouldn’t have a lot of ownership.
TheLuuch: Phillies – Our Top Stacks tool has Philly quite a ways down the list on both sites in terms of pOWN% (behind Texas, my favorite stack). I really like both sides of this game. Dane Dunning might be a slightly better pitcher than Taijuan Walker, but he’s not good. He profiles as below average, and I don’t think his current strikeout rate is sustainable based on his historical numbers. He’s walking more than 11% of hitters with a silly barrel rate north of 15%. At a minimum, I would target some lefty bats against him. WeatherEdge likes the conditions in Philadelphia quite a bit, so I want a piece of both teams.
Alex Sonty: Yankees – Looking at results, Bryce Miller isn’t a pitcher against whom we want to stack, but the advanced stats tell us that he should be giving up a lot of home runs more often. His 12.9% barrel rate allowed on 34.5% fly-ball and 55.4% hard-hit rates are supposed to yield more than the 1.37 HR/9 he’s actually surrendered. The Yankees have too much power to not push this regression forward. It looks like the field is gonna be cautious here, so we should be aggressive on a slate without gas cans in launching pads that are making us salivate. Yankee Stadium is an excellent park in which to hit that could go overlooked because there’s a game in Cincinnati and some wind in Wrigley.
