Million Dollar Musings: Friday, June 2
CheeseIsGood, a two-time winner of a $1,000,000 first-place prize in DFS, is here to give you his musings on the upcoming MLB DFS slate. Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Cheese has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks.
Happy Friday! We’ve got ourselves a big ol’ 13-game slate with a lot of everything. There are plenty of aces, as well as mid-tier pitchers, to focus on, but that still leaves us with more than a dozen offenses to prioritize too. This makes it one of those days where you could quite easily end up with a completely different primary pool than mine. The good news is that it looks unlikely that we see much in the way of chalk on the hitting side, so you can just play your favorites however you see fit.
There are several spots we’ll need to keep an eye on the weather, most notably in Boston. For now, I’m just writing this as if all the games play, but be sure to check the afternoon weather report or tune into Crunch Time to get the final word from Roth. Now onto find some MLB DFS picks on this loaded slate.
Friday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings
This is a deep pitching slate but with a clear top group of aces to start with. So anywhere the salary allows, I will not be goofing around.
Aces and More Aces
Framber Valdez vs. Angels – 26.9% K, 5.2% BB, 2.38 ERA, 2.96 SIERA
Shohei Ohtani at Astros – 35% K, 10.9% BB, 2.91 ERA, 3.30 SIERA
Luis Castillo at Rangers – 29.8% K, 5.9% BB, 2.69 ERA, 3.24 SIERA
Zack Wheeler at Nationals – 27.7% K, 5.5% BB, 3.60 ERA, 3.42 SIERA
Logan Webb vs. Orioles – 26.9% K, 4.9% BB, 2.75 ERA, 3.02 SIERA
Clayton Kershaw vs. Yankees – 29.4% K, 6.3% BB, 3.32 ERA, 3.28 SIERA
This is an incredibly strong group of skill sets here, and while we’ll try to draw some lines and find some favorites, this looks to be a spread-it-out slate without much gap between the aces.
None of the matchups are quite exactly perfect, but they are all good enough, and none of them are scaring me off any of these aces.
Any of these guys can find upside from efficiency and innings, but the strikeout upside starts with Shohei Ohtani. The Astros are fairly close to an average strikeout team, with five batters who are above 25% strikeouts to righties this season. With Ohtani well over 30% strikeouts to both sides of the plate and regularly getting to the 100-pitch range, he is my SP1.
