Million Dollar Musings: Sunday, August 6

CheeseIsGood, a two-time winner of a $1,000,000 first-place prize in DFS, is here to give you his musings on the upcoming MLB DFS slate. Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Cheese has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks.
Happy Sunday! We’ve got an 11-game main slate at 1:35pm ET that appears evenly balanced between pitching and hitting at first glance. But we’ll see if that thought changes as we start to dig in to the MLB DFS picks.
Of course, the one game with some weather concerns has to be the one game with the clear top pitcher on the slate in Tyler Glasnow in Detroit. The early forecast is Yellow/Orange, and for now, I’m just hoping they play cleanly there. Just be sure to check back closer to lock before locking in Glasnow this afternoon.

We have two spend-up aces and then a bunch of good pitchers with question marks, either from their matchups, recent form, or injury status.

Zac Gallen at Twins – 26% K, 5.1% BB, 3.41 ERA, 3.63 SIERA
Charlie Morton at Cubs – 24.5% K, 10.3% BB, 3.62 ERA, 4.32 SIERA

Sandy Alcantara at Rangers – 20% K, 6.4% BB, 4.21 ERA, 4.22 SIERA
Justin Steele vs. Braves – 22.3% K, 5.1% BB, 2.65 ERA, 3.86 SIERA
Carlos Rodon vs. Astros – 18.3% K, 14.7% BB, 6.29 ERA, 5.87 SIERA
Chris Bassitt at Red Sox – 22.2% K, 7.7% BB, 4.00 ERA, 4.32 SIERA

Assuming the weather doesn’t get any worse in Detroit, Tyler Glasnow is my clear SP1 for raw points and upside. $11,000 is a hefty price tag, and I’m not going to say he is some must-play in all lineups, but I’m not going to overthink it where I do have the salary. He has eight consecutive starts of 7+ strikeouts and gets a great matchup against a high-strikeout Tigers lineup.
The matchup for Zac Gallen is riskier but also comes with even more strikeouts than the Glasnow matchup in Detroit. My issue here is that Gallen really isn’t striking batters out at an elite clip, leaning more toward control with the same home run issues as every pitcher in the league. The upside is absolutely in here to spike another big game, but we’ve only seen one double-digit strikeout game since April, so I’m not planning on another here. He’s priced so closely to Glasnow that I just prefer going with the better strikeout pitcher, but I will absolutely pivot to Gallen in some lineups.
