CheeseIsGood, a two-time winner of a $1,000,000 first-place prize in DFS, is here to give you his musings on the upcoming MLB DFS slate. Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Cheese has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks.

Happy Thursday! Well, sort of. We’ve got a weird little small slate, and to make the weirdness weirder, we open with a scary Orange/Red in Roth’s weather report for the Giants-Rockies game at Coors Field. With a small slate and an obvious top team with the Giants, this is going to be a very tough slate to make decisions if we don’t get an early PPD in Colorado. Personally, I will tell you that I am building my lineups and doing my analysis with the expectation that the Coors game is postponed and we are left with a just a 3-game slate on FD and a 4-game slate on DK, assuming DK leaves in Game 2 of the Yankees-Red Sox doubleheader.

I will also tell you that I am just not going to be playing my usual volume tonight and will be content to watch football and live to fight another day. But regardless of any of that, we still do have a baseball slate, which means there are MLB DFS picks to dig through. So let’s jump in.

Kevin Gausman vs. Rangers – 31.5% K, 6.4% BB, 3.28 ERA, 3.21 SIERA
Kyle Bradish vs. Rays – 24.7% K, 6.6% BB, 3.03 ERA, 3.82 SIERA
Aaron Civale at Orioles – 21.4% K, 6.5% BB, 2.96 ERA, 4.35 SIERA
Kenta Maeda at White Sox – 25.8% K, 6.5% BB, 4.65 ERA, 3.93 SIERA

The first thing you might notice is that Nathan Eovaldi is not even listed here. He got up to just 47 pitches in his second start off the IL, and the Rangers are bringing him along so slowly that he is completely off my list at this salary, even on a small slate.

Kevin Gausman is the clear ace, but he’s also very expensive and facing the Rangers. As good as he’s been, he’s not all that often something that I would consider some kind of must-play pitcher at $11k. On FD, where he’s only $10,300 and cheaper than Kyle Bradish, I’d leave Gausman as the SP1. But the DK side is much more tempting to fade or take an underweight approach at a salary where 20-25 points is not really worth it.
