Million Dollar Musings: Wednesday, September 6

CheeseIsGood, a two-time winner of a $1,000,000 first-place prize in DFS, is here to give you his musings on the upcoming MLB DFS slate. Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Cheese has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks.
Happy Split Slate Wednesday! We’ve got a 6-game main slate at the usual 7:05 PM ET start time, but I’ll start out with a quick look at the early 6-game slate on DK that starts at 12:35 PM ET.
We’ve got a good mix of pitching and hitting on both slates, so hopefully we can both identify the good chalk as well as finding some MLB DFS picks to get a little different as well. Maybe we can even find a teeny tiny little person who will hit 3 HRs tonight. Let’s dive right into this early slate, and then I’ll be back after breakfast with a look at the evening slate.
Wednesday Early Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings

We’ve got quite a bit of good pitching for a 6-game slate, starting with a top two sitting on top of a 6-7 pitcher top tier that looks like this:
Freddy Peralta at Pirates – 31.3% K, 8.9% BB, 3.85 ERA, 3.53 SIERA
Zack Wheeler at Padres – 27.6% K, 4.5% BB, 3.62 ERA, 3.42 SIERA
Joe Ryan at Guardians – 29.4% K, 4.8% BB, 4.20 ERA, 3.42 SIERA
Mitch Keller vs. Pirates – ?? – 26% K, 7.1% BB, 3.93 ERA, 3.83 SIERA
Michael Wacha vs. Phillies – 22% K, 8% BB, 2.85 ERA, 4.51 SIERA
Hyun-Jin Ryu at A’s – 19.7% K, 6% BB, 2.48 ERA, 4.23 SIERA
Gavin Williams vs. Twins – 24.7% K, 9.8% BB, 3.46 ERA, 4.36 SIERA
All of these pitchers are playable, and I wouldn’t argue with the spread-it-out approach. However, I do see a big enough gap between the two highest-priced aces and the rest of the pack to prioritize at least one of Freddy Peralta and Zack Wheeler.
Both Wheeler and Peralta are pitching fantastically recently, with Peralta all the way up at a 39.6% K rate since the All-Star Break, and Wheeler coming in with back-to-back 10-strikeout starts and 6+ innings in 10 straight games. If salary allows, I will just play both of these aces anywhere they fit, but where I can only get one of them, I’m siding every so slightly with Peralta. Wheeler is a bit steadier, but Peralta’s strikeouts are more bankable and I prefer his matchup against Pittsburgh. It’s extremely close to a coin toss here, and I’ll have a lot of both, but I’m calling Peralta my SP1-A, with Wheeler at SP1-B.
