MLB DFS Top Stacks: Monday, August 12th
MLB DFS is complex. Most articles are about the individual players most likely to succeed, but the MLB DFS picks most likely to succeed aren’t always the MLB DFS picks we should be most likely to play. With some help from our Top Stacks tool, we will aim to look more at the process instead of just the picks and the teams instead of just the players. We’ll still analyze the MLB player projections that are available in our MLB optimizer, LineupHQ. However, we’ll be more focused on collective ownership, optimal scores, and matchups of full stacks within the context of game selection and leverage.
We have a fun Monday on tap with some stacks in really good matchups. But for as many subpar pitchers are scheduled to throw, a handful of top-tier starters will make decision-making a bit difficult. Let’s figure it out!
All stats cited are since the start of the 2024 season unless otherwise noted.

Yankees at Ky Bush
Bush made his debut last week, threw 89 pitches, and gave up 3 earned runs in 4 innings of work. All things considered, it was probably a win for a pitcher making his MLB debut, who was decent in Double-A but overmatched in a brief Triple-A stint.
Bush and the Yankees will do battle, and it’s going to be a tough matchup for the youngster. It was just one MLB start, but his swinging-strike rate was less than 5%, and he had serious control issues, yielding 5 walks to Oakland. He wasn’t overly impressive in the minors, so the stars are certainly aligning for New York, and runners should be on base early and often.
Bush, a lefty, will have to deal with Aaron Judge and his .364 ISO vs. LHP this season, Juan Soto (.234 ISO, .412 wOBA, and Giancarlo Stanton, who is hot right now and had a .353 ISO and 21% barrel rate against southpaws last year. When Bush departs, the Yankees could feast on a bullpen that has the 3rd-highest ERA and has given up the 4th-most home runs this season.
The problem with the Yankees? You’ll have to pay for them.
Judge has a monster DraftKings tag at $6,900, Soto is $6,400, while Stanton and Jazz Chisholm are no cheaper than $4,600. You’re likely not playing more than two of these guys together, and good luck pairing Soto and Judge. This is specifically an issue today because most of the high-end pitching options have a serious shot at breaking the slate.
Chris Sale, Luis Gil, and Blake Snell have decent matchups (Gil has the White Sox) and sky-high ceilings. If you prioritize them in your player pool, you’ll have to get creative if you’re interested in playing the Yankees.
The Yankees currently have the highest implied run total on the slate, and they’re projected to be the chalk on both sites at the highest Opto%, according to our Top Stacks tool.
