Pitcher Grind Down
- Tyler Matzek – Matzek can be avoided for daily fantasy baseball purposes. He has a low strikeout rate (14.2%), a high ERA (5.31), and he’s an inexperienced pitcher on the road. Even though the D-Backs have a depleted offense, I’ll be staying far away from Matzek tonight. Rating = 4
Salaries: $5200 FD, $13250 DD, $4700 DK, $40000 FF, $NA SS, $13250 FTD
- Chase Anderson – Anderson makes an interesting contrarian play tonight. He’s pitched well in his rookie season with a 3.19 ERA and a K/9 of 7.7. His biggest issue is that he gives up a lot of HR’s, but tonight he faces a Rockies offense that really struggles to score runs on the road. For the price, I like Anderson as a tournament play tonight. Rating = 5
Salaries: $6700 FD, $13350 DD, $6700 DK, $107400 FF, $ SS, $13350 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Colorado
Nolan Arenado – Anderson has had some serious reverse splits this season. He’s held LH hitters to a .273 wOBA while giving up a .381 wOBA to RH hitters. Arenado has been swinging a hot bat with 12 hits over his last 10 games.
Additional Plays: Wilin Rosario
Arizona
Aaron Hill – Matzek has really had trouble against RH hitters this season. He has given up a .375 wOBA to batters from the right side of the plate and Hill has historically hit lefties well.
Additional Plays: Mark Trumbo

Pitcher Grind Down
- Kyle Gibson – Gibson has had some terrific starts this season, but most of them have been at home. On the road he has a 4.38 ERA. Tonight he faces one of the best offenses in all of baseball. Not only do they lead the AL in runs scored, but they also lead the league in walks. They are a patient team that loves to make pitchers work. That doesn’t bode well for Gibson tonight. Rating = 3
Salaries: $5800 FD, $11700 DD, $5800 DK, $79200 FF, $NA SS, $11700 FTD
- Scott Kazmir – While Kazmir may not throw a complete game like Lester did last night, he should be able to post another terrific outing. The Twins are below average against LH pitching this season and strike out fairly often. Kazmir owns a 2.85 ERA with a K/9 of 7.9. He’s a huge favorite and should be able to pick up the win along with 7+ strikeouts. Rating = 8.5
Salaries: $8700 FD, $18950 DD, $8800 DK, $107500 FF, $ SS, $18000 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Minnesota
Avoid all Twins tonight against Kazmir.
Oakland
Josh Reddick – Reddick went 0/4 last night, but had 12 hits in his previous 9 games, 6 of which went for extra bases. He has a nice matchup against Gibson who has struggled against LH hitters.
Additional Plays: John Jaso, Brandon Moss, Stephen Vogt

Pitcher Grind Down
- Allen Webster – Webster has an ERA over 8.00 in his career. He’s a young pitcher that will be on the road against one of the best offenses in baseball. Avoid, avoid, avoid. Rating = 2
Salaries: $4200 FD, $8850 DD, $5400 DK, $64000 FF, $NA SS, $8850 FTD
- Jered Weaver – Weaver has some glaring home/road splits this season. Luckily, he is pitching at home tonight where he has posted a 2.66 ERA. The Red Sox are a fairly average offensive team against RH pitching and with Weaver’s success at home, he is in play on multi-pitcher sites. He should see plenty of run support to back his cause. Rating = 6
Salaries: $7500 FD, $15100 DD, $8400 DK, $97800 FF, $ SS, $15100 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Boston
This Red Sox offense just doesn’t excite me right now. They have all but given up on the season and Weaver has been pretty good against both LH and RH hitters this season. I’ll be avoiding the Sox tonight.
LA Angels
Kole Calhoun – Webster doesn’t have a ton of experience under his belt, but in a limited sample size he has given up a .463 wOBA to LH hitters. Calhoun is always in play against RH pitching and should be targeted in all leagues.
Additional Plays: Josh Hamilton, Mike Trout, Erick Aybar

Pitcher Grind Down
- Jose Quintana – Quintana is a very sneaky play tonight against the Mariners. Not only is he not a household name, but he’ll likely fly under the radar with Iwakuma on the mound for the Mariners. Quintana has been terrific this season with a 3.04 ERA and a K/9 of 7.9. He gets to face a LH heavy Mariners offense that is ranked 29th against LH pitching this season. Quintana is in play on multi-pitcher sites and in GPP’s. Rating = 6.5
Salaries: $7700 FD, $16250 DD, $8300 DK, $84500 FF, $NA SS, $16250 FTD
- Hisashi Iwakuma – For a pitcher in his price range, Iwakuma is as solid of an option as you are going to find. He has a 2.94 ERA (2.91 xFIP) with a K/9 of 7.3. He’s starting to miss more bats in his recent starts and the White Sox are not afraid of taking big hacks. They strike out at a 22% clip against RH pitching this season. I’m expecting another quality start from Iwakuma tonight. Rating = 8
Salaries: $8900 FD, $19300 DD, $9500 DK, $110700 FF, $ SS, $18350 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Chicago White Sox / Seattle
The total of this game is set at 6.5 runs. With these two pitchers on the mound, I’ll be avoiding all of the bats in this game.
