Pitcher Grind Down
- Jhoulys Chacin – Chacin owns a 4.76 ERA on the season with a 1.49 WHIP and only 11 K’s in his first 4 starts of the season. The total of this game is set at 8.5 runs which is high for a game being played in Citizens Bank Park. I’ll be avoiding both pitching options here. Rating = 3
Salaries: $5400 FD, $10815 DS, $9250 DD, $5600 DK, $77100 FF, $13000 SS, $13000 FTD
- Kyle Kendrick – Kendrick has given up at least 3 earned runs in each of his last 4 starts. He has a 4.53 ERA this season with a low K-rate. He faces an extremely talented Rockies’ offense and should be avoided in all leagues. Rating = 4
Salaries: $5400 FD, $7468 DS, $11500 DD, $6600 DK, $55000 FF, $13000 SS, $9500 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Colorado
Charlie Blackmon – Blackmon is batting .325 with an OPS of .917 against RH pitching this season. He has a terrific matchup against Kendrick who has given up a .413 wOBA.
Additional Plays: Justin Morneau, Michael Cuddyer, Troy Tulowitzki
Philadelphia
Chase Utley – I love taking Utley against an average RHP. He’s been crushing righties all season with a .369 batting average and an OPS of 1.04.
Additional Plays: Ryan Howard, Domonic Brown

Pitcher Grind Down
- Erik Bedard – Bedard has 5 consecutive starts in which he has given up less than 2 earned runs. He is now boasting an ERA of 2.63 with a 1.26 WHIP and a K/9 of 6.8. Now that I’ve talked Bedard up, I’m going to recommend avoiding him against the Blue Jays today. Not only are they ranked 8th against LH pitching, but this game will be played in the very hitter friendly Rogers Centre. Rating = 4
Salaries: $5600 FD, $13598 DS, $12550 DD, $7700 DK, $70700 FF, $18400 SS, $10300 FTD
- Drew Hutchison – Hutchison is a high strikeout pitcher with an extremely cheap price tag on most sites. He’s really struggled in his 3 starts at home this season with an ERA over 7.00. He could be worth a flier in a GPP, but should be avoided in cash games. Rating = 4
Salaries: $6100 FD, $14468 DS, $12550 DD, $9000 DK, $104500 FF, $23100 SS, $12400 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Tampa Bay
Evan Longoria – This is a perfect time to buy low on Longo. He’s been slumping lately, but has a nice matchup against the RHP Hutchison in the very hitter friendly Rogers Centre.
Additional Plays: Matt Joyce, Wil Myers
Toronto
Jose Bautista – Joey Bats has been crushing southpaws this season. He batting .444 against LH pitching with an OPS of 1.40. Even with E5 swinging a hot bat, I think Bautista is the top play on the Blue Jays tonight.
Additional Plays: Edwin Encarnacion, Melky Cabrera, Jose Reyes

Pitcher Grind Down
- Johnny Cueto – Cueto is coming off of his worst start of the season. The good news is that his price has come down in a few spots. Cueto is still sporting a 1.86 ERA on the season with a 0.73 WHIP and a K/9 of 9.6. He should bounce back nicely tonight even in a tough matchup against the Dodgers. Rating = 8
Salaries: $9900 FD, $22375 DS, $20400 DD, $12400 DK, $146400 FF, $32400 SS, $16900 FTD
- Hyun-Jin Ryu – Ryu pitched well in his first start back and will look to build on that tonight. He threw 89 pitches in that start and will likely be allowed to throw closer to 95 tonight. The total for this game is only set at 6.0 runs which is by far the lowest total on the board. Both pitchers are in play. Rating = 7
Salaries: $7100 FD, $15455 DS, $13350 DD, $9100 DK, $87200 FF, $21800 SS, $16400 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Cincinnati / LA Dodgers
With such a low total, I’ll be avoiding all hitters in this game. There are much better options available.
Houston at Kansas City

Pitcher Grind Down
- Scott Feldman – Feldman has a 3.02 ERA on the season, but only has 22 K’s over 41 innings of work. His upside is limited and he faces a Royals’ offense that has struck out less times than any team in baseball. Rating = 4
Salaries: $5400 FD, $10850 DS, $10500 DD, $6000 DK, $68800 FF, $13000 SS, $11400 FTD
- Yordano Ventura – Dollar for dollar, Ventura is one of the top pitching plays tonight. He has terrific upside with a K/9 of 9.3. He also has a terrific matchup against the Astros who are ranked 23rd against RH pitching with a team .297 wOBA and a K-percentage of 24.2. Rating = 9
Salaries: $7900 FD, $15852 DS, $15300 DD, $9700 DK, $91200 FF, $24000 SS, $13600 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Houston
With Ventura being one of my top plays, I’m not recommending any batters against him.
Kansas City
Alex Gordon – Gordon is batting .286 with an OPS of .763. He has a decent matchup against the RHP Feldman. Gordon also has good numbers against Feldman as he is 8/21 against him.
Additional Plays: Eric Hosmer

Pitcher Grind Down
- Tyson Ross – Ross has been terrific at home, but his numbers have really dipped in his road starts. This season he has an ERA of 4.56 on the road and he has a tough matchup tonight against the D-Backs in the hitter friendly Chase Field. He’s still a nice GPP play thanks to his high K-rate, but there are better options for cash games. Rating = 5
Salaries: $6700 FD, $19916 DS, $16450 DD, $10500 DK, $121000 FF, $26000 SS, $12800 FTD
- Brandon McCarthy – McCarthy has given up less than 3 earned runs in 6 of his last 7 starts. He appears to be trending in the right direction. Even though this game will be played in the hitter friendly Chase Field, I like his matchup against the Padres who are ranked dead last against RH pitching with a team .276 wOBA. Rating = 6
Salaries: $6000 FD, $14381 DS, $14350 DD, $8400 DK, $67200 FF, $20300 SS, $11400 FTD
Batter Grind Down
San Diego
Seth Smith – Smith has been on fire of late. He’s now batting .339 with an OPS of 1.04 this season. That’s pretty impressive when half of your games are being played in the most pitcher friendly ballpark in baseball.
Additional Plays: Chase Headley
Arizona
Paul Goldschmidt – Ross has given up a .340 wOBA to RH batters this season and Goldy has 2 career HR’s off of him in the past.
Additional Plays: Miguel Montero
