Pitcher Grind Down
- Jhoulys Chacin – Chacin has not pitched well this season and it shows in his 1-7 record and 4.84 ERA. While you’d expect him to improve away from Coors Field, he’s actually been worse on the road where he sports a 5.14 ERA. This is a guy who won 14 games and posted a 3.47 ERA last season, so he’s not quite as bad as the numbers indicate, but he’s losing velocity on his fastball and taking on the Brewers in Miller Park is not an easy task. Rating = 4
Salaries: $5500 FD, $9770 DS, $9400 DD, $6700 DK, $61300 FF, $14200 SS, $9400 FTD
- Matt Garza – Garza has had a bit of an up-and-down season, but he’s seems to have fixed his issues lately. He’s posted a 2.38 ERA in five starts this month and has been quite successful all season at Miller Park (3.00 ERA and 54 K’s in 60 innings). The Rockies lose quite a bit of their bite when they’re removed from Coors Field and own a .299 team wOBA on the road. Rating = 5.5
Salaries: $7000 FD, $14364 DS, $14200 DD, $7700 DK, $81300 FF, $21700 SS, $14200 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Colorado
Justin Morneau – Garza has been less effective against left-handed batters this season, and Morneau owns a .397 wOBA versus righties this season. He’s hitting .367 over the last week and is 2 for 5 with a double against Garza in their brief history.
Additional Plays: Troy Tulowitzki, Corey Dickerson
Milwaukee
Scooter Gennett – With a righty (Chacin) on the bump for the Rockies today, Gennett should slide right back into the leadoff spot for the Brew Crew. He’s hitting .400 during the month of June and is hitting .338 this season versus right-handed pitching.
Additional Plays: Aramis Ramirez, Carlos Gomez, Jonathan Lucroy

Pitcher Grind Down
- Sonny Gray – A well rested Sonny Gray will take the mound for the A’s today, and he’ll be looking to improve upon his already tremendous 2.18 road ERA. The Marlins can be dangerous at the plate, especially at home, but Gray will have the added benefit of facing an NL pitcher in this one. He’s not among the elite options on the mound today, but he’s the next tier down. Rating = 7
Salaries: $8700 FD, $18999 DS, $15600 DD, $8400 DK, $103500 FF, $24300 SS, $15600 FTD
- Nathan Eovaldi – Eovaldi bounced back from two consecutive rough starts by tossing 6.1 scoreless innings against Philadelphia in his last start. He’s pitched well this season, posting a 3.52 ERA and 1.21 WHIP through his first 16 starts. Things will be tough for him today as he takes on MLB’s highest scoring team, the Oakland Athletics (5.10 runs per game) so he’s only a GPP target in this start. Rating = 5
Salaries: $6700 FD, $13990 DS, $13400 DD, $6700 DK, $71200 FF, $21400 SS, $13400 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Oakland
Brandon Moss – Lefties have posted a .361 wOBA off of Eovaldi and it’s no secret that Moss is the most dangerous left-handed bat in the A’s lineup. Moss owns a .378 wOBA against right-handed pitching and brings a five game hitting streak into today’s game. He has also thrived this season in day games, where he owns a .932 OPS.
Additional Plays: John Jaso, Coco Crisp, Yoenis Cespedes
Miami
Giancarlo Stanton – I don’t love the matchup for the Marlins today against Sonny Gray, but Stanton is locked in at the plate right now and always a threat to go deep. He owns a 1.033 OPS at Marlins Park this season and is hitting .467 during his current eight game hitting streak.
Additional Plays: Jarrod Saltalamacchia

Pitcher Grind Down
- Max Scherzer – You never seem to know what you’re going to get from the Detroit pitching staff these days, but Scherzer is in a great spot this afternoon and is one of the better fantasy targets on the board. The Astros are not the laughing stock offensively that they were last year, but Max dominated them in their last meeting, tossing eight scoreless innings while only allowing three hits and racking up nine strikeouts. He seemed to get back on track in his last start and makes for a great play in all leagues today. Rating = 8.5
Salaries: $10100 FD, $20824 DS, $17650 DD, $10200 DK, $107200 FF, $28200 SS, $17050 FTD
- Brett Oberholtzer – Oberholtzer will get the call from AAA Oklahoma City to fill in for the injured Dallas Keuchel today. He was respectable for the Astros earlier this season but his 4.76 ERA leaves a bit to be desired. He owns a 5.21 ERA at AAA since being sent back down at the end of May and this Detroit team is 3rd in MLB in wOBA against left-handed pitching. Rating = 2.5
Salaries: $5700 FD, $ DS, $9800 DD, $5800 DK, $ FF, $ SS, $ FTD
Batter Grind Down
Detroit
Victor Martinez – Righties own a .362 wOBA off of Oberholtzer this season, and V-Mart has been destroying left-handed pitching to the tune of a .506 wOBA.
Additional Plays: Ian Kinsler, Miguel Cabrera, Rajai Davis, Austin Jackson
Houston
George Springer – I don’t think it’s overly wise to pick on Scherzer, but Springer’s power makes him a decent GPP target in any matchup. He owns a .375 wOBA against right-handed pitching and has racked up 15 homeruns since May 8th.
Additional Plays: None

Pitcher Grind Down
- David Hale – Hale will be summoned from the bullpen once again for a spot start today for the Braves. He’s been impressive during his short career as a starter, but he’s struggled a bit lately in relief and has not been “stretched back out” for starting duty. While the Braves haven’t commented on his potential pitch count, it’s highly unlikely he’ll pitch deep into this game so there isn’t much fantasy value here. Rating = 3.5
Salaries: $5100 FD, $12313 DS, $8650 DD, $5500 DK, $NA FF, $13000 SS, $7500 FTD
- Sean O’Sullivan – The double-header today will force the Phillies to call up Sean O’Sullivan to make a spot start against the Braves. Despite a decent matchup against this Braves lineup, O’Sullivan owns a 5.89 ERA during his career and his 4.23 K’s/9 strikeout rate leaves very little fantasy value. He hasn’t been fantastic at AAA Lehigh and I’ll certainly be staying far away. Rating = 2
Salaries: $4200 FD, $11777 DS, $8750 DD, $6300 DK, $ FF, $ SS, $ FTD
Batter Grind Down
Atlanta
Freddie Freeman – The Braves don’t have too many recommended bats when they’re facing right-handed pitching but O’Sullivan has been really knocked around by left-handed batters both at the MLB level and at AAA this season. Freeman had a huge night last night (3 for 5 with a double and a homerun) and owns a .368 wOBA versus righties this season.
Additional Plays: Jason Heyward
Philadelphia
Chase Utley – Utley has been quiet at the plate lately, but he’s a career .297 hitter against right-handed pitching and finds himself in a nice spot here against David Hale. He’s shown signs of life in the last two games, racking up four hits (one homerun) and a walk.
Additional Plays: Ryan Howard, Cody Asche

Pitcher Grind Down
- Blake Treinen – Treinen was terrific for the Nationals earlier this season, posting a 2.08 ERA over 30.1 innings. He’s had back-to-back solid starts at AAA Syracuse and has a nice matchup on paper against the Cubbies today. With that said, the wind looks like it may be blowing out today and, if that’s the case, nearly all of his fantasy value goes out the window. Depending on the wind he could be worth a GPP flier, but I won’t be using him. Rating = 4
Salaries: $5000 FD, $13431 DS, $9650 DD, $5400 DK, $NA FF, $NA SS, $NA FTD
- Jeff Samardzija – After struggling a bit there are the beginning of June, The Shark has bounced back with back-to-back very strong pitching performances. He’s been nearly unhittable at Wrigley Field this season, posting a 1.63 ERA over 55.1 innings. He’s good for a strikeout per inning and this Washington team is ranked 25th in the league in wOBA versus right-handed pitching, so if the wind cooperates he’s a very nice option. Rating = 6.5
Salaries: $7900 FD, $17033 DS, $16300 DD, $8400 DK, $89800 FF, $25100 SS, $15650 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Washington
Adam LaRoche – Laroche owns a very impressive .403 wOBA against right-handed pitching and is hitting .370 over the last seven days.
Additional Plays: Denard Span
Chicago Cubs
Anthony Rizzo – Rizzo owns a .393 wOBA versus right-handed pitching this season and has been crushing the ball at Wrigley Field, posting a 1.021 home OPS. He’s also hitting .331 during the month of June.
Additional Plays: Luis Valbuena
