Pitcher Grind Down
- Kevin Gausman – Gausman will be battling for his spot in the rotation today, but gets a tough matchup against the Red Sox in Fenway. He has had 5 starts this season and given up 5 earned runs in two of them. The other 3 starts, he gave up 1 earned run or less. He is a risky play due to the matchup today. Rating = 4
Salaries: $5700 FD, $9529 DS, $11200 DD, $6200 DK, $NA FF, $NA SS, $NA FTD
- Jake Peavy – Peavy has not been good this year for the Red Sox with a 4.86 ERA and 1.44 WHIP. He has been giving up a lot of home runs (17 in 17 starts), and has a matchup with a lot of power bats in Baltimore. Peavy has struggled against the Orioles (9 earned runs in 12.2 innings) and can be avoided today. Rating = 3
Salaries: $6300 FD, $9022 DS, $11900 DD, $6600 DK, $53300 FF, $15700 SS, $11900 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Baltimore
Adam Jones – It seems as if Cruz and Jones take turns going deep this year. Well it looks like it could be Jones’ night as he has hit Peavy well in the past (7/12, 1 home run).
Additional Plays: Chris Davis
Boston
David Ortiz – Ortiz makes a good play at the moment as he has been seeing the ball real well the last few days. Since the start of July, he is 3 for 9 with 3 doubles.
Additional Plays: Daniel Nava Dustin Pedroia

Pitcher Grind Down
- Wade Miley – Miley comes into this matchup with a 4.61 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. He has been a much better pitcher away from home as he has a 3.42 ERA in his 8 away starts. He is a heavy underdog today at the Braves, but his 8.42 K/9 could make him an interesting GPP play against the Braves who strike out a lot. Rating = 4
Salaries: $6500 FD, $15732 DS, $13650 DD, $7600 DK, $73100 FF, $21000 SS, $13650 FTD
- Alex Wood – Wood has been in and out of the bullpen this year making 9 starts and 20 appearances on the season. He has pitched well with a 3.16 ERA and has a nice matchup against the Diamondbacks who have scored the 3rd least runs against LH pitching this year. Wood might be hard to trust for cash games today, but makes a great GPP/mulit-pitcher play. Rating = 6
Salaries: $7500 FD, $18540 DS, $13050 DD, $8600 DK, $105800 FF, $22500 SS, $13050 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Arizona
Paul Goldschmidt – Goldy is in play against any lefty taking the mound against him. He batting .375 against them with a 1.001 OPS.
Atlanta
Justin Upton – Miley is allowing a wOBA of .329 to right handed batters on the year. Upton is mashing LH pitching for .352 and a .722 SLG on the year. Plug him in today.
Additional Plays: Chris Johnson B.J. Upton Andrelton Simmons

Pitcher Grind Down
- Taijuan Walker – Walker made his first start of the season last week and went 6 innings, gave up 3 earned runs and 6 strikeouts against the Astros. He now gets to take on a White Sox squad who strikes out a ton, but the game features a very high total. Unless Walker in extremely cheap, I would avoid him today. Rating = 4
Salaries: $6100 FD, $15923 DS, $13200 DD, $8000 DK, $67000 FF, $20800 SS, $13200 FTD
- Hector Noesi – Noesi is another pitcher that when I see on the board, I love to target hitters against. He has a 5.33 ERA on the season with a 1.51 WHIP. Noesi is never an option in any type of format, regardless of matchup this year. Rating = 2
Salaries: $5900 FD, $9355 DS, $9550 DD, $5700 DK, $ FF, $13000 SS, $9550 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Seattle
Corey Hart – Noesi is giving up a ridiculous .399 wOBA to RH batters this year. I am looking for Hart to have his first big game since coming back from injury this afternoon.
Additional Plays: Robinson Cano James Jones Kyle Seager
Chicago White Sox
Jose Abreu – I am recommending him here just because what he has been doing recently is amazing. In the last 18 games he has 21 hits and 8 home runs. He sits at 27 home runs overall and could easily make it 28 today.
Additional Plays: Adam Eaton

Pitcher Grind Down
- Hiroki Kuroda – Kuroda has not been the pitcher the Yankees were hoping for this year as he has really struggled coming into this game with a 4+ ERA on the season. The matchup today does set up nicely for him as he takes on the Twins and Nolasco and should get enough run support for the win. His low K rate of 6.42 K/9 does limit his upside a bit, but makes a decent play if cheap. Rating = 5
Salaries: $7100 FD, $14688 DS, $12850 DD, $7200 DK, $78100 FF, $19600 SS, $12850 FTD
- Ricky Nolasco – Nolasco has been an easy avoid all season long for the Twins. The AL has not been kind to him as he has a 5.49 ERA and a 1.57 WHIP on the year. The Yankees are full of power LH batters that will be looking to end Nolasco’s day quick. Avoid him in all formats. Rating = 3
Salaries: $5500 FD, $8774 DS, $9700 DD, $6400 DK, $56300 FF, $13600 SS, $9700 FTD
Batter Grind Down
NY Yankees
Jacoby Ellsbury – All the big time lefties are in play today against Nolasco who has allowed a wOBA of .400 to LH batters. Ellsbury is usually my favorite for cash games due to his ability to score so many different ways.
Additional Plays: Brian McCann Brett Gardner Mark Teixeira
Minnesota
Chris Parmelee – Parmelee makes a decent play today as he is been batting very high in the order with Mauer out.
Additional Plays: Kendry Morales

Pitcher Grind Down
- Henderson Alvarez – I think Alvarez has finally gotten out of the DFS under the radar type of play as he continues to put up quality starts. In his last 8 starts, he has only allowed 6 earned runs, which has dropped his ERA down to 2.33. The only thing holding him back from a great play today is his 5.58 K/9. Alvarez makes a decent play depending on price today. Rating = 6
Salaries: $7500 FD, $14713 DS, $13650 DD, $7600 DK, $98600 FF, $20500 SS, $13650 FTD
- Marco Gonzales – Gonzales had to make his debut at Coors and was lit up for 5 earned runs. We thought he could show up a little better against the Giants, and was lit up for another 5 runs. He is a complete avoid until he can show us that he can pitch in the majors. Rating = 3
Salaries: $4200 FD, $6365 DS, $8150 DD, $5000 DK, $64000 FF, $13000 SS, $8150 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Miami
Giancarlo Stanton – Stanton is one of the top OF options of the day as he gets the young lefty pitcher for the Cards. Stanton has crushed LH pitching for .388, .716 SLG and a 1.204 OPS.
Additional Plays: Casey McGehee Marcell Ozuna
St. Louis
Matt Adams – Cheap 1b option of the day goes to Adams who gets his L/R matchup. He continues to mash them for.359 on the year.
Additional Plays: Matt Carpenter
