Pitcher Grind Down
- Roenis Elias – Elias has been up and down this year, but overall brings a 3.91 ERA into this matchup with the Royals. He has a real problem this year with keeping the ball in the park as he has given up a home run in 8 of his last 10 starts. The Royals strike out the least in the league by a wide margin, making Elias an avoidable start today. Rating = 3
Salaries: $6400 FD, $15214 DS, $13850 DD, $8200 DK, $101800 FF, $22600 SS, $13850 FTD
- Yordano Ventura – Ventura has not exactly been what the Royals may have thought they were getting this year, but has continued to post decent numbers with a low 3.26 ERA and 1.25 WHIP. The problem recently in he has not been striking batters out like he was earlier in the season as he only has 14 in his last 5 starts. He does have a great matchup against the Mariners and their 3rd lowest run total against RH pitching this year. Rating = 6*
Salaries: $7700 FD, $16462 DS, $14400 DD, $7200 DK, $78600 FF, $20500 SS, $14400 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Seattle
Robinson Cano – Cano is mashing pretty much all pitching, but especially righties. He is hitting .348 with a .478 SLG on the season.
Additional Plays: Kyle Seager
Kansas City
Billy Butler Butler makes a good play today against the young lefty especially since his price is low and he has been on a hot streak over the last week (13/26, 4 extra base hits)
Additional Plays: Salvador Perez Omar Infante

Pitcher Grind Down
- John Danks – Ever since his real rough start to the season, Danks has turned it around and has pitched well. In his last 5 starts, Danks has given up only 6 earned runs, while pitching at least 7 innings in 4 of those 5 games. He gets a great matchup with the Twins who have struggled against lefties on the season. He still has some risk, but makes a decent play, if cheap. Rating = 5
Salaries: $6100 FD, $12789 DS, $12700 DD, $7500 DK, $81900 FF, $21400 SS, $12700 FTD
- Phil Hughes – Hughes has been very good for the Twins on the year and looks to continue it against the White Sox. He has a 3.09 ERA as well as a very nice 1.10 WHIP. He also brings a respectable 7.77 K/9 into this matchup against the White Sox who strike out the 4th most in the league against righties. Hughes makes a good play today for the Twins. Rating = 6
Salaries: $7200 FD, $17238 DS, $16150 DD, $8700 DK, $102400 FF, $25100 SS, $16150 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Chicago White Sox
Jose Abreu – Righties have actually been hitting Hughes very well this season and Abreu always has big power potential. 16 of Abreu’s 21 home runs have come off of RH pitching this year.
Additional Plays: Alexei Ramirez
Minnesota
Danny Santana – It is a small sample so far this year, but Santana has been very good at the plate. He is hitting .323 with an OBP of .353.
Additional Plays: Brian Dozier

Pitcher Grind Down
- Chris Tillman – Tillman has had a bit of a rough season so far this year and has a 4.82 ERA and high 1.49 WHIP to show for it. He has a tough matchup against a Yankees squad that has a .299 team average against him. With Tanaka on the hill against him, he would have to pitch way above him means to get the win. Rating = 3
Salaries: $5900 FD, $10800 DS, $10150 DD, $5500 DK, $57400 FF, $13300 SS, $10150 FTD
- Masahiro Tanaka – Tanaka has been better than advertised this year and continues to mow down lineups. He has a 1.99 ERA and 0.95 WHIP on the season and he has faced some big offenses in Toronto and Oakland and left unscathed. Add this to the fact that he has a 10.20 K/9 and you have a great fantasy starter. The matchup is not the greatest, but he should get run support today, which adds to his upside. Rating = 9*
Salaries: $11400 FD, $25585 DS, $21350 DD, $11900 DK, $170000 FF, $33000 SS, $21350 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Baltimore
You could try to go with a Crush Davis as a contrarian GPP play, but spend you money elsewhere today.
NY Yankees
Jacoby Ellsbury – Tillman is allowing a wOBA of .336 to LH batters and Ellsbury is always a great cash game option against a subpar righty.
Additional Plays: Brett Gardner Brian McCann Mark Teixeira

Pitcher Grind Down
- Kyle Kendrick – Kendrick has put together a few quality starts in a row now and has actually dropped his ERA to under 4. He has been extremely inconsistent this year and his low K/9 of 5.60 does not add to his fantasy value. He is safe to avoid this afternoon. Rating = 4
Salaries: $6000 FD, $9264 DS, $11350 DD, $7400 DK, $77600 FF, $17600 SS, $11350 FTD
- Carlos Martinez – Martinez is coming out of the bullpen for his second start this year. He has not pitched that well this year with a 4.19 ERA and 1.32 WHIP and is clearly on a pitch count after only going 59 pitches in his last start. Due to this, he is not an option for fantasy today. Rating = 3
Salaries: $5400 FD, $12313 DS, $7500 DD, $5400 DK, $67000 FF, $13000 SS, $ FTD
Batter Grind Down
Philadelphia
Chase Utley – Martinez has given up a .295 AVG to LH batters so far this year and Utley should be able to get on base as he is hitting well over .300 on the year against RH pitching.
Additional Plays: Jimmy Rollins Ryan Howard
St. Louis
Matt Adams – Another good value day for Adams as he faces a subpar RH pitcher in Kendrick. Kendrick has allowed lefties to hit .331 off of him this year.
Additional Plays: Matt Carpenter Matt Holliday
Pittsburgh at Chicago Cubs

Pitcher Grind Down
- Brandon Cumpton – Cumpton brings his 5.82 ERA into this matchup against the Cubs that he did have a decent start against just 3 weeks ago. In that start he gave up only 2 earned runs and struck out 5 in 5 innings. This is about the ceiling for Cumpton, so unless you want a real punt option, I would look for other safer pitchers today. Rating = 4
Salaries: $5000 FD, $9332 DS, $9050 DD, $5200 DK, $65000 FF, $13000 SS, $9050 FTD
- Jason Hammel – Hammel is coming off of two straight 4 earned run starts against the Marlins and these Pirates. He has been very good for the Cubs holding a 3.02 ERA on the season, but it will depend on the wind situation today at Wrigley. At this point no O/U has been set, so keep your eye on it if you are planning on using Hammel. Rating = 6
Salaries: $6900 FD, $16354 DS, $14600 DD, $9400 DK, $102200 FF, $24500 SS, $14600 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Pittsburgh
Andrew McCutchen – McCutchen is hitting RH pitching for .314 and a .513 SLG this year. He just went deep against Hammel in his first at bat a few weeks ago.
Chicago Cubs
Anthony Rizzo – Rizzo seems to always make my plays of the day list for the Cubs, especially when he is facing average RH pitching. Cumpton is allowing lefties to his .355 off of him and Rizzo is in a great spot for the Cubs today.
Additional Plays: Nate Schierholtz Luis Valbuena
