Pitcher Grind Down
- Julio Teheran – Teheran is one of the top pitchers on the board tonight. He owns a 2.29 ERA on the season with a K/9 of 7.6. He also draws a terrific matchup against the Mets who are ranked 27th in wOBA against RH pitching this season. To top it off, he is facing them in the pitcher-friendly Citi Field which has surrendered the 2nd fewest runs of any ballpark this season. Rating = 9
Salaries: $9300 FD, $22075 DS, $20400 DD, $9900 DK, $135200 FF, $29500 SS, $19800 FTD
- Jacob Degrom – Degrom has pitched well this season with a 3.77 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP. That said, he has only struck out 53 batters while he has given up 26 walks. That works out to be a K/BB ratio close to 2:1 which isn’t great. It’s a decent matchup as the Braves are ranked 26th in wOBA against RH pitching this season, but I’ll be avoiding Degrom tonight. Rating = 5
Salaries: $6700 FD, $12229 DS, $12450 DD, $6800 DK, $63000 FF, $18600 SS, $12450 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Atlanta
Freddie Freeman – Freeman has a terrific wOBA matchup tonight. Degrom is giving up a .354 wOBA to LH hitters, while Freeman has a .381 wOBA against RH pitching. He’s also riding a 6-game hitting streak in which he has accumulated 10 hits.
Additional Plays: Andrelton Simmons
NY Mets
Avoid all Mets’ bats tonight. Teheran has been terrific this season and there are much better matchups to exploit.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Tsuyoshi Wada – Wada will be making his major league debut tonight. He’s a 33 year-old lefty that is finally making it to the big stage. He has a chance to stay in the Cubs’ rotation now that Samardzija is gone, but he’s certainly not a pitcher that I expect to have great success. Wada has pitched well in the minors, but could struggle not that he’s reached the majors. Plus, he’s not even available in any of the player pools tonight. Rating = 3
Salaries: $ FD, $NA DS, $NA DD, $NA DK, $NA FF, $NA SS, $NA FTD
- David Holmberg – Holmberg is another inexperienced lefty that will be making a start tonight. This will be his 2nd career big league appearance, but unlike Wada, he has not had much success in the minors this season. Holmberg is available on FD, DK, and DD, but should be avoided in all leagues. There’s more downside than upside here. Rating = 3
Salaries: $4200 FD, $ DS, $9650 DD, $5700 DK, $ FF, $ SS, $ FTD
Batter Grind Down
Chicago Cubs
Starlin Castro – The Cubs are a sneaky team to stack tonight. They are facing the young LHP Holmberg in what is expected to be a fairly high scoring game. Castro has a .358 wOBA against southpaws this season and is affordable on most sites.
Additional Plays: Justin Ruggiano, Anthony Rizzo
Cincinnati
Todd Frazier – Outside of the DFS world and Cincinnati, I’m not sure many people are realizing how good Frazier actually is. He’s batting .293 this season with 17 HR’s and a very sneaky 13 SB’s. He has a .400 wOBA against southpaws and draws a fantastic matchup against the 33 year-old rookie.
Additional Plays: Billy Hamilton, Devin Mesoraco

Pitcher Grind Down
- Brad Peacock – Peacock has pitched better than most people give him credit for, but is still not a recommended fantasy option. He’s an underdog in a game that features a total of 10.0 runs tonight. He’s an easy pitcher to avoid in all leagues. Rating = 3
Salaries: $5800 FD, $10683 DS, $10550 DD, $6000 DK, $68500 FF, $15000 SS, $10550 FTD
- Phil Irwin – Ignore the pitching table above as Irwin will draw the start for the injured Nick Martinez. Irwin is only making a spot start and is not a recommended fantasy option. Both offenses are in terrific spots though. Rating = 3
Batter Grind Down
Houston
George Springer – The Astros’ offense came alive last night and put up 12 runs on the Rangers. They could be in for another terrific outing tonight against Irwin. Springer has a .364 wOBA against RH pitching and offers great upside for the price.
Additional Plays: Jose Altuve, Jon Singleton
Texas
Shin-Soo Choo – Tonight is the night to buy low on Choo. His price is depressed across the industry and he draws a terrific matchup against Peacock who has given up a .362 wOBA to LH hitters since the start of 2013.
Additional Plays: Adrian Beltre, Leonys Martin, Alex Rios
Philadelphia at Milwaukee

Pitcher Grind Down
- Kyle Kendrick – Kendrick could be in for a long night tonight. Well I suppose in terms of time on the mound, he could be in for a short night. He is one of the biggest underdogs on the board tonight and he’s struggled with RH hitters this season. The Brewers just so happen to have a lineup full of righties. Rating = 3
Salaries: $6000 FD, $11139 DS, $11300 DD, $7000 DK, $64200 FF, $17900 SS, $11300 FTD
- Wily Peralta – Peralta can also be avoided in fantasy leagues tonight. He’s given up 8 HR’s in 8 home starts this season and this game may end up turning into a HR derby. All that said, the Phillies are ranked 29th in wOBA against RH pitching and Peralta could carry some value as a deep GPP play. Rating = 5
Salaries: $7300 FD, $14209 DS, $13500 DD, $7000 DK, $97300 FF, $19800 SS, $13500 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Philadelphia
Chase Utley – Despite having a great matchup against Estrada last night, no one seemed to be on Utley. He ended up being the top 2B play on the board. Tonight he has another favorable matchup against a similar pitcher in Peralta.
Additional Plays: Marlon Byrd, Ryan Howard
Milwaukee
Ryan Braun – If you missed the MLB First Look, then you missed the BvP play of the day which belongs to Braun. Braun is 9/19 with 3 XBH’s off of Kendrick in his career. Braun is also sporting a .370 wOBA against RH pitching this season.
Additional Plays: Carlos Gomez, Scooter Gennett, Jonathan Lucroy

Pitcher Grind Down
- Vance Worley – Worley’s ERA looks solid on the season, but his peripheral pitching stats tell another story. Worley has a BABIP (batting average per ball in play) of .225 which is not going to hold up over the long run. I’m trusting the peripheral stats here and will be avoiding Worley tonight against the Cardinals. Rating = 4
Salaries: $5600 FD, $13691 DS, $11650 DD, $7200 DK, $40000 FF, $23400 SS, $11650 FTD
- Carlos Martinez – Martinez has stuck around in the Cardinals’ rotation and has actually pitched pretty well with a 3.91 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP. The issue is that he doesn’t pitch deep into games (only pitched 5 innings twice this season). It would take a near perfect outing for him to be in line for the win tonight. Rating = 4
Salaries: $5900 FD, $12588 DS, $8350 DD, $5400 DK, $62000 FF, $14200 SS, $ FTD
Batter Grind Down
Pittsburgh
Neil Walker – Walker will likely be batting clean-up tonight and makes a terrific value play at 2B. Martinez has given up a .390 wOBA to LH hitters this season and Walker has a .347 wOBA against RH pitching.
Additional Plays: Andrew McCutchen
St. Louis
Matt Adams – Adams hit a HR last night that proved to be the difference in the 2-0 victory over the Pirates. He draws another nice matchup tonight against Worley who have given up a .428 wOBA to LH hitters since the start of 2013.
Additional Plays: Matt Carpenter, Yadier Molina
