Pitcher Grind Down
Felix Doubront – This game features two pitchers that are rarely rostered in the DFS world. Doubront owns a 5.09 ERA with a 1.56 WHIP and a K/9 of 6.2 this season. He faces a Twins’ offense that is ranked 21st against LH pitching. Doubrong is an average option tonight at pitcher. Rating = 5
UPDATE: The Red Sox are pushing Doubront’s start back to tomorrow and will go with Jake Peavy on the mound tonight so make sure to avoid Doubront in all leagues.
Ricky Nolasco – Nolasco has pitched well in his last two starts, but still owns a 5.64 ERA this season with a 1.56 WHIP. I’m not crazy about the way he is pitching or his matchup against the Red Sox who are ranked 8th against RH pitching this season with a team wOBA of .332. Rating = 4
Batter Grind Down
Boston
David Ortiz – Over the last two seasons, Nolasco has given up a .338 wOBA to LH batters. Ortiz fits that bill. Ortiz is also very good against RH pitching as he has posted an OPS of 1.90 OPS against righties over the last 3 seasons.
Additional Plays: A.J. Pierzynski, Grady Sizemore, Mike Napoli
Minnesota
Trevor Plouffe – With Peavy starting instead of Doubront, this certainly makes Plouffe a less viable option tonight, but he still has nice power against RH pitching and makes a nice tournament play at 3B.
Additional Plays: Brian Dozier, Joe Mauer

Pitcher Grind Down
Matt Harrison – In 3 starts this season Harrison has posted a 2.87 ERA with a 1.64 WHIP and a 9 K’s over 15 innings of work. His upside is fairly limited, but he does have a nice matchup against the Astros who are ranked 22nd against LH pitching this season and have a strikeout percentage of 21% against southpaws. Rating = 6
Dallas Keuchel – Keuchel has been the lone bright spot in this Astros’ pitching rotation this season. Through 7 starts he has a 3.86 ERA with a K/9 of 8.2. Even though the Rangers have been very good against LH pitching this season, I think Keuchel makes a decent tournament play. Rating = 5
Batter Grind Down
Texas
Alex Rios – Rios has been crushing southpaws this season to a tune of a .422 batting average and an OPS of 1.25. He has a great combination of speed and power and his price is affordable on most sites.
Additional Plays: Adrian Beltre
Houston
George Springer – Since the start of last season, Harrison is giving up a .396 wOBA to RH batters. Springer is still cheap across the industry and makes a nice upside play in the OF tonight.
Additional Plays: Jose Altuve

Pitcher Grind Down
Gerrit Cole – Cole has given up 7 earned runs over his last 2 starts, but he still has an ERA under 4.00 on the season. The former #1 overall pick is a viable fantasy option thanks to his high K-rate. This game is basically a pick ‘em game with the total set at only 7.0 runs. Cole is in play on multi-pitcher sites. Rating = 6
Marco Estrada – Estrada has a 3.53 ERA with a 1.06 WHIP and a K/9 of 7.9. He faces a Pirates offense that is ranked 15th against RH pitching this season with a team wOBA of .310. Estrada is similar to Cole in that he is in play on multi-pitcher sites. Rating = 7
Batter Grind Down
Pittsburgh
Andrew McCutchen – Cutch is batting .320 with an OPS of .904 this season. He has a nice combination of speed (27 SB’s last season) and power (21 HR’s last season) and this game will be played at the HR friendly Miller Park.
Additional Plays: Pedro Alvarez
Milwaukee
Scooter Gennett – The Brewers face the RHP Cole which means Gennett will likely be batting 2nd or 3rd tonight. He has been a terrific value play all season long at 2B. He’s batting .301 against RH pitching with 9 XBH’s.
Additional Plays: Carlos Gomez

Pitcher Grind Down
Franklin Morales – Morales has a 5.18 ERA on the season with a 1.53 WHIP and a K/9 of 7.2. While the Royals have struggled against LH pitching this season (ranked 29th), they have struck out the 2nd fewest times of any team in baseball. Morales has more downside than upside tonight. Rating = 4
James Shields – Shields has a 2.70 ERA with a 1.13 WHIP and a K/9 of 8.2. He faces a Rockies’ offense that has not been nearly as effective away from Coors Field. While I do think there are some better cash game options in his price range, Shields is a high strikeout pitcher with nice upside. Rating = 7
Batter Grind Down
Colorado
I’ll be avoiding all Rockies’ batters against Shields tonight.
Kansas City
Billy Butler – Butler is one of the cheapest 1B options that you can find tonight and if you are looking to save some cap room, he is a terrific punt option. Morales has given up a .390 wOBA to RH batters and Butler is batting .340 at Kauffman Stadium this season.
Additional Plays: Danny Valencia, Salvador Perez

Pitcher Grind Down
Jake Arrieta – Arrieta has made 2 starts this season and has posted a 2.89 ERA. He’s only pitched a combined 9 innings though and he will have a very tough time getting any run support with Wainwright on the mound for the Cardinals. Rating = 4
Adam Wainwright – Wainwright is my favorite cash game play tonight. The Cubs put up 17 runs last night, but I have a feeling that tonight will be a much different story. Wainwright has a 2.02 ERA on the season with a K/9 of 8.1. If you play on a single pitcher site, Wainwright should be the top cash game option. Rating = 10
Batter Grind Down
Chicago Cubs
Avoid all Cubbies’ bats tonight against Wainwright who has been close to unhittable this season.
St. Louis
Yadier Molina – A lot of people like to punt the Catcher position, but I love taking Molina at Catcher when I can afford to. He is great against RH and LH pitching and gives you great production from a position that is largely boom or bust.
Additional Plays: Matt Carpenter, Matt Holliday, Allen Craig
