Friday’s MLB slate features 15 games, all of which have a scheduled first pitch of 6:40 p.m. ET or later. That means plenty of time for the betting community to get their research done and find a few plays to their liking to begin the weekend!

As always, be sure to monitor our MLB starting lineups page throughout the day, as unexpected changes in the batting order can result in value opportunities in the betting and DFS markets.

Another reminder – it’s not a bad beat, or unlucky, if you bet a player to hit a home run and his fly ball dies on the warning track because it’s 40 degrees with the wind blowing in! Before locking in any bets, use our MLB weather page, curated by Chief Meteorologist, Kevin Roth. There are countless edges to be found if we make the right reads on possible rain delays and great hitting weather, just to name a few. Taking a look at the weather report can save us from a bad bet that otherwise looks good on the surface.

Below, you can find my 3 picks for Friday, May 9th!

Best MLB Player Props for Friday, May 9th

Here are my top player prop bets for today, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:40 PM ET on Friday, May 9th:

Erick Fedde OVER 16.5 Outs Recorded (-125, DraftKings)

Fedde has struggled of late, but he’s still recorded 17+ outs in 4 of his last 5 turns through the rotation. Tonight, he gets to face a Washington offense that has been around the league average against RHP during the last 14 days. Fedde, despite his struggles, has been more efficient than the league-average pitcher during the last month of action. If he can be reasonably effective in this spot, the Cardinals are likely to give him an opportunity to get through 6 innings.

Juan Soto OVER 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs (-135, BetMGM)

Jameson Taillon might be the luckiest pitcher in the MLB across the last month. He doesn’t have dramatic spits between his surface level numbers and peripherals, but a .200 BABIP, 80.2% LOB%, and 6.7% HR/FB ratio all suggest that he’s been more lucky than good of late. He’s also allowed a lot of quality contact in the air, which isn’t a good thing heading into a matchup against a talented Mets lineup. Soto hitting in the 2-hole is perhaps most well positioned to provide some production against Taillon in this spot. Taillon has historically struggled against LHB and will have to face Francisco Lindor ahead of Soto. This should give Soto an opportunity to drive in a run or collect a few counting stats on Friday.

Eduardo Rodriguez OVER 15.5 Outs Recorded (+110, bet365)

Rodriguez doesn’t have a sterling reputation as a starting pitcher in the big leagues, but he’s positioned for success, even in what appears to be a tough matchup on the surface. During the last month of action, Rodriguez has been one of the most efficient starters in the big leagues, averaging 3.5 pitches per batter faced. This evening, he will have to contend with a talented Dodgers lineup, but fatigue could be a factor for Los Angeles here, a team that is playing their 8th consecutive road game spanning multiple time zones. If Rodriguez is even mildly effective in terms of run prevention, he should have an opportunity to come out for the 6th inning.
