Happy Monday! Major League Baseball has 7 games on tap to begin the new week of action, all of which are scheduled for a 6:40 p.m. ET first pitch or later. Despite the smaller slate, bettors and fans aren’t likely to be short on entertainment options, with the return of Shohei Ohtani to the mound, in addition to big names like Dylan Cease and Sandy Alcantara on the bump for their respective teams.
As always, be sure to monitor our MLB starting lineups page throughout the day, as unexpected changes in the batting order can result in value opportunities in the betting and DFS markets.
Another reminder – it’s not a bad beat or unlucky if you bet a player to hit a home run and his fly ball dies on the warning track because it’s 40 degrees with the wind blowing in! Before locking in any bets, use our MLB weather page, curated by Chief Meteorologist, Kevin Roth. There are countless edges to be found if we make the right reads on possible rain delays and great hitting weather, just to name a few. Taking a look at the weather report can save us from a bad bet that otherwise looks good on the surface.

Best MLB Player Props for Monday, June 16th
Here are my top player prop bets for today, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:40 PM ET on Monday, June 16th:
- Ryan Pepiot Over/Under 4.5 Hits Allowed
- Julio Rodriguez Over/Under 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs
- Shohei Ohtani Over/Under 1.5 Strikeouts
Ryan Pepiot OVER 4.5 Hits Allowed (-135, bet365)

On the surface, it appears as though Pepiot has turned a corner of late. Across his last 4 starts, he owns a 1.78 ERA and 0.75 WHIP. Yet he’s still allowing more hard contact than the league-average pitcher in that span, which is even more notable when considering that all of those offenses have been average at best against right-handed pitching during the last month. Tonight, Pepiot draws a tougher matchup against the Orioles, who rank 3rd in wRC+ and 6th in batting average against right-handed pitching during the last 14 days. It’s also worth pointing out that Pepiot threw 108 pitches in his most recent turn through the rotation; it’s possible that there could be some negative effects of such usage, given that he hadn’t thrown more than 96 pitches since April prior to that point.
Julio Rodriguez OVER 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs (-160, BetMGM)

This season, Lucas Giolito has struggled against right-handed batters, allowing a 1.82 WHIP. He’s not missing many bats, which is partly contributing to an elevated walk rate in such matchups as well. Rodriguez went hitless yesterday, but he had 7 multi-hit efforts in his previous 10 contests to that point. Rodriguez should have opportunities to contribute on Monday in a favorable matchup playing in front of his home fans.
Shohei Ohtani UNDER 1.5 Strikeouts (-140, DraftKings)

According to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, Ohtani is expected to pitch only 1 inning. Assuming the Padres don’t have any surprises with their lineup, Ohtani is likely to face Fernando Tatis Jr., Luis Arraez, Manny Machado, and perhaps Gavin Sheets and Xander Bogaerts (if Ohtani allows a baserunner or two). During the last 30 days, Tatis, Arraez, Machado, Sheets, and Bogaerts each have a strikeout rate below 19% against RHP.
