MLB Player Props Today

Reid Detmers u5.5 strikeouts (-150), BetMGM

Since May 15, the Houston Astros have been striking out a lot against left-handed pitching – ranking 21st of out 30 teams during that span. However, it is a sample size of only 157 plate appearances and the numbers are skewed slightly by a few outlier performances. Since May 30, Bailey Falter, Marco Gonzales, Patrick Sandoval, and Ken Waldichuk (twice) have each recorded four strikeouts or fewer against the Astros. Reid Detmers is certainly more talented than every other pitcher on that list, but it is debatable by how much. Detmers has struggled to work deep into ballgames, which is also working against him in this spot. Do not bet the house, but the under is the smart play here.

Alex Verdugo u0.5 hitter strikeouts (+140), DraftKings

Entering play on Thursday, Alex Verdugo owns an impressive 13.6% strikeout rate for the season. Most important relating to tonight’s matchup is the fact that Verdugo has a 7.8% whiff rate against fastballs delivered from right-handed pitching this year. Against left-handed batters, Greene is fastball dominant, throwing his heater 57.2% of the time. When Greene gets to two strikes, he throws his fastball even more frequently – meaning that Verdugo should be in a good position to at least put the ball in play in each of his trips to the box this evening. At significant plus money, take the under here.

MLB DFS Pick’em

Jose Ramirez less than 0.5 hitter strikeouts, PrizePicks

PrizePicks is not offering Masataka Yoshida as a playable option tonight, so we are forced to look elsewhere on the slate for a high-contact hitter who we trust to put the ball in play. Tonight, Jose Ramirez fits that criterion, entering play with an impressive 8.7% strikeout rate in 2023. Pablo Lopez has improved his swing and miss stuff this season, but he is still far better equipped to strike out right-handed batters than he is left-handed batters. Trust Ramirez to put the ball in play or to draw a walk each time he steps in the box this evening.
