Monday Tipps for the Fanduel 5K NBA Slam

It’s great to have the NBA back! It looks like we are going to have big GPP tourneys every night of the week this season, with Fanduel leading the way tonight with the biggest, the 5K NBA Slam! I’ve picked out a few bargain plays to help fill in your roster so you can load up on the studs at other positions. Good luck!

Point Guard

jarrett jack

Ricky Rubio, MIN, $3200 – You’ll have to monitor this one just to make sure he’s playing tonight, but if he does, the $3200 price tag is going to be a steal.

Jarrett Jack, NOR, $5600Chris Paul is gone and Jack is the only thing the Hornets have going at point guard. He should easily get 35 minutes against the fast paced Suns and be well worth the $5,600, especially since he gets to go against the soft defense of Steve Nash.

Ty Lawson, DEN, $6400 – Much like Rubio, you’ll probably have to monitor this one close to game time to make sure Lawson is starting. He has a good matchup against a tired Dallas team who played yesterday. If Lawson can’t go, then turn your attention to Andre Miller. He’s a little expensive at $7100, but if he’s the only active PG for Denver, he’ll get all the minutes he can handle.

Kyrie Irving, CLE, $3400 – I like Irving, but I’m not exactly sure how many minutes he’s going to get. I’m looking for 25-28 minutes if he comes off the bench, a little more if he starts. He’s got a great matchup against the weak defense of Jose Calderon.

Shooting Guard

Gerald Henderson, CHA, $5400 – Henderson has the starting shooting guard spot all to himself this season and I’d expect him to get 33-35 minutes tonight. The matchup isn’t a great one against Stephen Jackson, but someone is going to have to score for Charlotte, so Henderson should get 12-15 shot attempts.

Arron Afflalo, DEN, $6100 – Afflalo was late signing this year and didn’t get much camp time in, so I’m not sure how many minutes he’s going to get tonight. He should get at least 25 minutes, possibly more and still makes a great play at $6100. He should be able to run circles around a tired, aging Vince Carter.

Marcus Thornton, SAC, $6400 – Thornton is probably my favorite lower priced player going. He has the potential to blow up for 30+ Fanduel points, especially against a tired Laker team who played yesterday.

Nick Young, WAS, $6600 – Young can light it up when he’s on and he has a decent matchup against the weak defense of the Nets.

Small Forward

Corey Maggette, CHA, $5700 – Maggette is the starting SF for the Bobcats and he’s going to be the focal point of their offense this season. He’s always a health risk, but he should be good for at least 15 shot attempts and you know he’s going to get to the line at least 10 times. Not bad value for $5700.

Damion James, NJ, $4800 – There aren’t many decent lower priced SF plays tonight and James is probably the only other low priced guy I’d gamble on. He should get the start over Shawne Williams and could get 25-28 minutes. Very risky though.

Danny Granger, IND, $7700 – Granger is probably priced as low as he will be all season and makes a great fantasy play on a night where there just isn’t much available at small forward. He’s got a home game matched up against a hobbled Tayshaun Prince.

Power Forward

Jonas Jerebko, DET, $3300Charlie Villanueva is suspended for tonight’s game, so Jerebko could get the start. Even if he doesn’t start, he should get decent minutes. You definitely want to monitor his status closer to game time before using him. Jerebko got injured in the first game of the 2010 season, so his Fanduel minimum salary doesn’t reflect his true ability.

Ryan Anderson, ORL, $6100 – The guy went off for 25 points and 10 rebounds yesterday, how can you not play him for $6100?

Josh McRoberts, LAL, $5600 – I liked what I saw last night from McRoberts. He got 35 minutes, putting up 6 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks. I think he gets 30+ minutes again tonight with similar production.

Greg Monroe, DET, $6500 – Monroe is going to be on a lot of rosters tonight at just $6500. He’s great value at that price, but just remember that everyone is likely to have him going too, which isn’t so good in a large field tournament.

Kris Humphries, NJN, $6700 – Humphries has the ability to put up solid double-doubles and he should be able to do that tonight. Brook Lopez is out with a broken foot, so Humphries might be able to grab 15+ rebounds.

Center

Greg Oden, POR, $3000 – He’s minimum salary tonight and could. Wait, nevermind. :)

Mehmet Okur, NJN, $3700Brook Lopez is out with a broken foot and Okur should get big minutes at center for the Nets. I’m not sure if he’s going to be the starter tonight, but he should play. He’s got good chemistry with Deron Williams from their Jazz days, so he could surprise for $3700.

Jamaal Magloire, TOR, $3900 – This is a play that you will definitely want to monitor close to game time if you choose to use it. The Raptors have started Magliore at center with Bargnani shifting to power forward for much of the preseason and could go with that lineup tonight. If they do, Magliore might be worth the $3900. Very risky play.

Kurt Thomas, POR, $5200Marcus Camby had an MRI on his knee last week and could be limited. If he can’t go, Thomas should get the start. Check the game time status on Camby before using this play.

Marcin Gortat, PHO, $6600 – He’s got a broken thumb, but that shouldn’t slow him down too much against the Kaman/Okafor combo that New Orleans will throw out there. Gortat was a beast during the last half of the 2010 season and should keep that going this year.
