NBA Bird Review: Wednesday, March 9th
The Grinder review series will provide the reader with a breakdown of the exposures of “top of the leaderboard” players, the top single-entry lineup, and a comparison between all single entry lineups and professionals for Wednesday slate GPPs.
This week we looked at the $333k Wednesday Bird [$50k to 1st!] on DraftKings with a buy-in of $33.
Multi-Entry Grinders of the Game
AshyL4rry flexed the PG spot quite extensively by locking both Darren Collison and Mario Chalmers in a majority of lineups. By also using a large amount of Jamychal Green, he had the salary to fill out his lineups with a healthy amount of James Harden, Kevin Durant, Rudy Gay, and Andre Drummond. He was able to pull a rabbit out of the hat with his 5th place finish by incorporating two of his lower owned players (Russell Westbrook & Devin Booker) in combination with well performing chalk:

With only 12 entries, ChipotleAddict featured a core of 4 players that were owned in 83%+ of his lineups while sprinkling in auxiliary players around them. He displayed how powerful this strategy can be when you hit on most of your core, by taking down 8th, 23rd, and 47th place, leading to a 75% cash rate:

Ehafner also built a great (and similiar) core group of players like AshyL4rry/ChipotleAddict, but did not manage to align the stars into a top finish. While on the wrong side of variance in this instance, he still finished with a 60.5% cash rate over 200 entries:

Single-Entry Winner of the Game
As the highest finish single-entry player on the board tied for 11th place, Fletch266’s lineup revolved around many chalky plays aside from Mario Chalmers, minimal team stacking, and a few key under-owned players in Tristan Thompson and Anthony Davis. Tristan was starting for an injured Mozgov and Davis was his usual, volatile self.

Single-Entry vs. AshyL4rry/ChipotleAddict/ehafner
Out of 11598 entries in the Bird, 2680 (23.1%) of those entries were entered courtesy of players using a single bullet. The table below compares the exposures of those single entries to the exposures of AshyL4rry, ChipotleAddict, ehafner, and 25 other top professionals picked off of RotoGrinders’ leaderboard:
