Wednesday’s Facebook Plays of the Day

Rajon Rondo – Shown above, Rondo is leading the NBA in assists and is only 6 games away from tying John Stockton’s all-time record for consecutive games with double-digit assists. Coming into town is a defensive backcourt led by Mo Williams which should excite any point guard. Rondo has been extremely reliable all season and his mid-range jumper is MUCH improved from a year ago. All signs point to Rondo as the obvious expensive play at the PG position. I would tend to use Rondo more on sites where assists are weighted more heavily than points though.
James Harden – Coming off a stretch of defensive nightmares in Wade in Miami, Tony Allen in Memphis and Andre Iguodala in Denver, Harden looks to finally have a solid chance to outperform his quickly rising salary. The Hornets are young and vulnerable and Harden is looking to bounce back from a few consecutive off nights. Look for a 25 point or more evening from Harden.
Blake Griffin – The Heat are getting absolutely demolished this season by true Power Forwards, likely due to the use of LeBron James at the 4 spot and Chris Bosh at the 5, leaving them undersized. Zach Randolph took it to them earlier this week and Miami as a whole is allowing 27 points and 14 rebounds on average to opposing power forwards. Even scarier is that Patrick Patterson took it to them as well. Look for that trend to continue on Wednesday night in a great match up against Blake Griffin and Chris Paul in LA.
Brandon Jennings – Coming off a 33 point, 8 assist evening against Philadelphia, Jennings is as hot as any player in the NBA and doesn’t quite carry the same price tag as the Rondo and Harden crowd. Indiana, who was known for it’s strong defensive presence last season, is allowing the second most fantasy points per game to opposing point guards. George Hill has been lights out on offense but struggles to stop anyone defensively so look for Jennings to reward you handsomely and to be an excellent GPP play with big upside.
Al-Farouq Aminu – Houston ranks in the bottom third of NBA defenses against the small forward position and Aminu has been a bright spot in the early goings for New Orleans. He hasn’t scored under 20 fantasy points in any game this season and made up for his one bad shooting night thus far with 16 rebounds. Here’s the stat line you can expect from Aminu: 12-15 points, 8-10 rebounds, 2-3 assists, and 2 steals. That’s 25-35 fantasy points on most sites which will easily cover his relatively low salary. He’s a great head-to-head match up pick.

Dwyane Wade – Wade has been a little touch and go thus far, missing one game with some whambulance issues, but the good news is that he has only played under 30 minutes in one game so far. That trend should definitely continue tonight with a competitive match up against a team that is allowing the 6th most fantasy points per game to opposing shooting guards. Wade will need to play big to carry the Heat past the Clips tonight. Also expect a strong showing from LeBron who has been known to get streaky after a big performance like the one he put on late against Houston.
Roy Hibbert – The boldest pick of these choices thus far is Hibbert who is STRUGGLING to find any type of groove thus far. He’s missing lay ups at an unreal pace and that’s the trend that gives me the most comfort in recommending him. He is in a slump, but it’s not indicative of how talented he is. Milwaukee is the perfect team to bust out against, allowing the second most FPPG to opposing centers so far this season. Hibbert needs to step up if Indiana stands a chance with Granger out and I think they try to get him more involved starting tonight. Buy low now on Hibbs.
Greg Monroe – Monroe has been off and on all season but what’s intrigued me the most is his ability to stuff the stat sheet across all categories. Since a slow first three games, he is averaging over 18 points per game and has had double digit rebounds in 4 of 5 games. He also put up a triple double with assists against Sacramento last Thursday which was extremely impressive. Philly allows the 11th most FPPG to opposing Centers and I feel like Kwame Brown, Spencer Hawes and Lavoy Allen aren’t quite prepared for Monroe.
Facebook NBA Players to Avoid on Wednesday
Goran Dragic + Marcin Gortat – Chicago is one of the premiere defensive teams in the NBA for two reasons. First, they play great help defense and it doesn’t matter who’s on the ball. Second, they take LONG possessions on offense to minimize their opponents possessions. I mean they won’t shoot until the shot clock is at 8 or lower. This is bad news for Gortat and Dragic who just won’t see enough possessions tonight to be effective. Chicago also ranks 2nd best vs. PGs this season and 6th best vs. Centers.
Paul George – The man is in a pretty bad funk and it’s not the Roy Hibbert funk I explained above. It’s the kind where he is taking bad shots and trying to force himself to be more of an offensive threat than he is. His rebound totals are still there and his TO numbers have actually been trending downwards but you can tell he’s really pushing to do too much and that’s something to avoid until he proves he can change that mindset.
Jrue Holiday – The match up is extremely juicy and I am sure a ton of people will be very high on Holiday tonight. I actually agree he could shut me up and have an incredible night but the turnover numbers this season are making him a PASS in my book right now. 7 or more turnovers in each of his past four games is just not what I want to see. He’s been shooting the ball at a solid pace but when an off shooting night comes, those turnover numbers that were being outweighed by all the other positives will bury you. Jrue lookin like Jeremy Lin circa 2011-12 right now.
Facebook NBA Sleepers of the Day

A.J. Price – If your daily fantasy site of choice hasn’t yet caught onto the A.J. Price phenomena yet then HOP ON THIS NOW. Dallas has struggled defensively against point guards all season(3rd most FPPG-allowed), and Price has been simply terrific. An off night last night means it’s the perfect time to re-up the A.J. Price machine and use him while your competitors frown upon him.
Anthony Davis – He may not be priced like a sleeper on every site but there are still a ton where he’s not in elite level pricing despite putting up elite numbers. He hung 23 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks up on the hapless Bobcats and should have no issue doing similar damage to a Rockets team that starts Patrick Patterson and Omer Asik in their frontcourt. No disrespect to either of those guys but Davis is far too athletic for either of them to handle.
Lance Stephenson – Stephenson is averaging around 25 minutes per game over the last 4 games for Indiana while getting the nod as the starter. He doesn’t have huge upside but his bottom of the barrel price on most sites makes him a huge value. For example, he’s listed at $6500 on DraftStreet right now and $3600 on FanDuel. He’s averaging around 18 fantasy points per game since getting the starting role. That is tremendous value for those price points($3K on DraftKings is pretty tasty too).
Brendan Haywood – A below average priced Center on every daily fantasy site, Haywood has hit the 30 minute mark in 4 of his 5 games this season and the 30 fantasy point mark twice. He won’t wow you with a 45 point performance but at his price point on every site he doesn’t have to. Take the cheap salary and 25 fantasy points from Haywood and save up for the studs listed above.
