Sunday in Week 10 comes to a close with a primetime matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys are -3.5 across online sports betting sites as they look for a third straight victory. Both teams feature a star running back, a strong defense, and a solid passing attack. Will home-field advantage be enough for the Cowboys?

The Cowboys will stare into the proverbial mirror when Minnesota steps into AT&T Stadium on Sunday night. The Cowboys and Vikings both play stifling defense and aim to establish the running game on offense. Both teams feature a superstar running back and more-than-capable quarterback. In addition, star wide receivers will be scattered all over their field. Something must give…

Kirk Cousins will likely need to throw the ball a lot against a Cowboys’ defense that does not give up much on the ground. In 2019, the Cowboys have only allowed greater than 150 rushing yards once — in Week 1 versus the Giants. The Vikings will employ a gameplan without star receiver Adam Thielen, who will miss another game with a hamstring injury. Thielen missed the Week 8 contest versus the Washington Redskins and only played a few snaps last week against the Chiefs. Without Thielen, Stefon Diggs and Dalvin Cook will likely do the heavy lifting in the passing game with Olabisi Johnson likely getting a complementary role.

The Cowboys, facing a very similar defense, will likely look to establish the run regardless of their opponent’s defensive prowess. Ezekiel Elliott has three straight games with more than 20 rushing attempts. If, and possibly when, the run game is ineffective, Dak Prescott will look to throw the ball to his battery of receivers. Although hobbled, Amari Cooper is expected to play and will join Michael Gallup, Randall Cobb, and Jason Witten to complete one of the better passing attacks in the NFL. Daily fantasy will need to choose between Dak’s assortment of weapons in their Showdown lineups on DraftKings. RotoGrinders’ GridironIQ tool pegs the Cowboys as top-ten options in QB, WR, and TE fantasy scoring.

The line opened at -3 and the addition of the half-point makes choosing a side very tough. Considering the offensive approach of both teams and the strength of both defenses, a look at the total might be more prudent.

The Sunday Night Football Pick

Given the approach of both football teams, points could be tough to come by on Sunday night. Without Adam Thielen, the Vikings passing offense could struggle to find their footing. The Vikings’ defense will put plenty of pressure on the running attack of the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys passing attack will need to put up points against a defense that doesn’t necessarily make it easy. I envision a game where both teams struggle to move the ball and struggle even more in the red zone. Give me the under.

The Pick: Under 48 Points
