PrizePicks Super Bowl Predictions: Quarterbacks
Brock Purdy More/Less Than 1.5 Passing Touchdowns
Purdy has his fair share of critics, but it will still be fascinating to see a former Mr. Irrelevant taking snaps in the Super Bowl. You can argue that Purdy is a product of the Niners’ system and star-laden offense, but you can’t argue with the numbers. The Iowa State product completed about 2/3 of his throws on the season for over 4,200 yards with 31 touchdown passes.
He’ll have a full complement of weapons handy on Sunday, with Deebo Samuel, Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle, and Brandon Aiyuk all healthy. Purdy didn’t throw multiple TDs in either of the team’s 2 playoff games to this point, but he’s still taking to the air. Purdy has attempted at least 30 passes in 3 of his last 4 games dating back to the regular season.
I’d expect Kyle Shanahan to put his QB in a position to succeed here, and we know there’s enough talent on this offense to where the Niners should be able to put points on the board even against a stingy KC defense. Purdy will account for at least a couple of TDs through the air in this one.

Patrick Mahomes More/Less Than 26.5 Rushing Yards
Patrick Mahomes isn’t a classic dual-threat QB, but we know he can make plays with his legs when he needs to. Over the past few years, we’ve seen Mahomes scramble for quite a few back-breaking first downs when the pass play wasn’t there.
The Chiefs aren’t going to call any designed runs for their franchise signal caller, but he did rush for a career-high 389 yards on 5.2 yards per attempt during the season. Mahomes has also scampered for 75 yards across the Chiefs’ first 3 playoff games, with exactly 6 carries in each of the last 2 games.
Needless to say, the 49ers are going to have to focus most of their efforts on accounting for Travis Kelce and Rashee Rice in the passing game. Mahomes should find a few running lanes on occasion as a result, and the 26.5 rushing yard number here isn’t a particularly lofty one. He’s rushed for at least 27 yards in 9 games already this season.

Patrick Mahomes More/Less Than 19 Fantasy Points
The 2023-24 campaign wasn’t Mahomes’ most prolific statistical season to date, but he has turned it on in these playoffs. Mahomes has thrown for 718 yards with 4 touchdowns and zero interceptions through 3 postseason games.
KC will surely try to get some traction in the ground game via Isiah Pacheco, but their chances to win will ultimately hinge on Mahomes’ right arm. The 49ers had one of the league’s most dominant defenses during the regular season, but they’ve looked a bit mortal since the playoffs began. Both Jared Goff and Jordan Love found success in this same matchup, even in losing efforts.
Given his long track record of success, I’ll have a very hard time doubting Mahomes on Sunday.
