Fantasy Football Wide Receiver Notes
One of the best game environments for racking up fantasy points in Week 1 is in LA, where the Dolphins will be visiting the Chargers. The Dolphins are road dogs in a game with a high total and a tight spread, and they will be without the services of cornerback Jalen Ramsey. Tyreek Hill has posted some big numbers against the Chargers in his career. Last year, he had 81 receiving yards and a touchdown; the game before that, he had a whopping 148 yards and a touchdown (albeit with the Chiefs). As for Waddle’s questionable tag, he’s been practicing and was insistent that he will suit up for the season opener.
Justin Herbert and friends should have no trouble putting up points on the board in their home opener. In his last game against the Dolphins, Keenan Allen had 91 receiving yards on fourteen targets but did not score a touchdown. Allen is a reliable fantasy option on a week-to-week basis, especially in PPR formats. In that same game, Mike Williams caught all six of his targets for 116 yards and a touchdown. This is my favorite game of the week.
It remains to be seen how Davante Adams fares with Jimmy Garoppolo now the starting quarterback for the Raiders. However, in two games against them last year, Adams dominated the Broncos, hauling in sixteen catches for a combined 242 yards and two touchdowns.
The Los Angeles Rams feature one of the worst defenses in the league entering the 2023 campaign. Geno Smith ended last year with the fifth most fantasy points among quarterbacks, and he draws a great opportunity to begin this year with garish numbers. D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett should be the primary beneficiaries against this woeful defense consisting of Aaron Donald and not much else.
While he doesn’t appear on the list above, Tutu Atwell could be worth picking up if he’s still available. With Cooper Kupp ruled out for this week’s game (and maybe more), Atwell will serve the Rams as the number two wide receiver behind Van Jefferson.
Good luck in Week 1!
