A few days ago Washington Nationals’ ace Max Scherzer couldn’t even get out of bed. A cortizone shot, a flight to Houston, and a wild Game 6 later, the three-time Cy Young winner is ready to go for Game 7. Hollywood writers couldn’t write this script. In fact, it’s the first series of any kind in MLB, NBA, or NHL postseason history in which the road team won six straight games. In other firsts, Stephen Strasburg became the first pitcher in MLB history to go 5-0 in October and manager Dave Martinez is the first manager to be ejected from the World Series since 1996.

We had a great night with our Game 6 betting picks as we cashed the +158 underdog and the +0.5 1st 5 innings with the Nationals.

With Scherzer on the mound, the Nationals are +120 underdogs again as oddsmakers give Zack Greinke and the Houston Astros the edge in Game 7 of the World Series.

World Series Game 7 Betting Picks

There are so many unknown variables tonight which makes handicapping this game pretty difficult. How healthy is Scherzer? How much gas does Gerrit Cole, who hasn’t pitched in relief since high school, have in the tank on two days rest if he’s called to come out of the bullpen?

If Scherzer can bring his stuff, then it’s tough not to like the Nationals +120 to close this thing out. Eight days ago Scherzer won Game 1 in this very same park. In that outing, Scherzer gave up two runs in the 1st, but those were all the Astros would from him. The 35 year old, who has battled injuries throughout the latter half of the season, shut out the Astros over the course of the next four innings, striking out seven hitters along the way.

Scherzer insisted he’ll be good to go for Game 7, but I’m not confident enough to lock in the Nats just yet. If you do bet Washington, be sure to bet with Max Scherzer as “listed.” If he’s scratched, so too will your bet. You’ll likely get a much better price if you want to back the Nationals’ contingency plan which includes Anibal Sanchez and Patrick Corbin.

I don’t blame you if you do bet the Nationals. Washington has played with their backs against the wall since May. They started the season 19-31. As the Nationals dropped games, sportsbooks dropped their odds to win the World Series to as low as +3000 (some may have even dropped them lower). The Nationals roared back to earn a wild card spot. The gritty ball club has been the best team in baseball between May 24 and the start of October. The Nationals have faced elimination four times in the playoffs. They trailed in all four games and won all four, becoming the first team to produce four comeback wins in a single postseason. If they win their fifth while facing elimination, the bettors who backed them to win the World Series when they were 19-31 will finally get to cash their longshot futures bets.

If you happened to snag the Nationals to win the World Series +600 before Game 6 or when the playoffs started (+1500), I suggest hedging your bet and selecting Action. With so many unknowns, I’m staying away from a side. Instead, I like Over 7.5 runs. Both teams can hit, and there is a chance Scherzer doesn’t hold up. The fact that the teams will bring in other starters from the bullpen would normally make me hesitant to bet the Over, but Patrick Corbin hasn’t been good against the Astros. The lefty relies on his fastball and slider, and the Astros’ right-handed heavy lineup has taken advantage of those pitches. In his Game 4 start, Corbin gave up four runs and seven hits in just six innings.
