DraftStreet Daily Fantasy GPP Strategy for Tuesday's $4,500 GPP
GPP Strategy & Lineup for Draftstreet’s Tuesday GPP

For those of you who have heard the term GPP but still don’t know what it is, a GPP is a Guaranteed Prize Pool tournament. These tournaments typically consist of at between 40-275 players and have guaranteed prize payments whether or not they fill up. Buy-ins range anywhere from $2 to $109 so no matter how big or small your bank roll is, there is always a GPP that you can afford. GPP’s are a chance for you to win a lot of money without having to pay that large of a buy-in.
While the format, scoring, and salaries of a GPP tournament are exactly the same as a head-to-head league, the strategy to picking a GPP team definitely changes. When you enter a GPP, you are no longer facing one or two opponents, you are facing anywhere from 40-275 opponents. Common sense will tell you that in order to finish at the top; you will need to not only have a good scoring night, but a great scoring night. This is where strategy comes in to play.
So far, I have mixed feelings about GPP’s. While I have placed in a few, I have never taken first and always seem to finish just out of the money. If the tournament pays places 1-6, I seem to find a way to place in 7th or 8th. I feel like my strategy towards GPP’s is close, but still needs some adjusting. And even though I am down overall doing GPP’s, the large payouts keep pulling me in at least once or twice a week. Today is the day this week that I am caving in and joining Draftstreet’s GPP. But since I have yet to place first, I am going to take a new approach.
Tweaking My Approach: New Rule of Thumb

In order to win a GPP you need to have everything go right. You can’t afford to have any players that have a bad night. My new approach to picking my GPP team is to pick players that can get 1 point for every $1,000 of salary. For instance Lance Berkman is $10,420, so in order to take him; my strategy says that he has to get me 10.5 fantasy points. While Berkman is capable of having a big night, I don’t think that he will have that big of a night, so I will pass on him.
Another example is Neil Walker; he is $5,449 and is facing Randy Wells whom he has a good track record against. I could easily see Walker scoring 5.5 points so he will be on my squad. If all of my players can live up to their end of the bargain and put up 1 point per $1,000 of salary, it will give me a total of 100 points which is usually good enough to place in a GPP.
So when putting your team together, always ask yourself if that player is capable of getting you enough points to be worth taking. If not, then don’t take him. Look for players that seem to be way undervalued that have the potential to score big. If you can do this and somehow find a four leaf clover, a rabbit’s foot, and a penny that’s heads up, you just might find yourself atop the GPP leader board tonight. That’s where I’m hoping to be. Here is my team:
