MLB Player Props Today

Austin Riley u0.5 hits (+185), DraftKings

Entering play on Sunday, Austin Riley owns a 10-game hitting streak. During that span, he has a .368 batting average and a 1.074 OPS, but he has still been swinging and missing a lot – evident by his 26.8% strikeout rate and 81.7% contact rate on pitches in the strike zone. Tonight’s opposing starter, Dylan Covey, was tough on right-handed batters in the minor leagues to begin 2023 and has carried that success with him to the big leagues. At significant plus money, bettors should take a small stab here, betting on Riley’s hit streak to come to an end.

Ronald Acuna u1.5 total bases (-120), BetMGM

Ronald Acuna is the current favorite to win National League Most Valuable Player honors in 2023, but that does not mean that bettors can blindly target overs on him in every scenario. In an admittedly small sample size to begin his time at the MLB level in 2023, Dylan Covey owns a 41.2% strikeout rate, 11.8% walk rate, and a .200 opponent batting average against right-handed batters. A high strikeout rate, high walk rate, and a low opponent batting average all independently decrease the chance that a hitter will get a base hit. When a pitcher has a high walk rate and a low opponent batting average, it decreases the odds of opposing batters getting a base knock even further. Expect Covey to execute well against right-handed batters on Sunday Night Baseball – take the under here.

MLB DFS Pick’em

Ozzie Albies less than 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs, PrizePicks

Ozzie Albies has a favorable matchup tonight against Dylan Covey, who struggles mightily against left-handed batters. However, it is difficult to imagine any matchup against a right-handed pitcher in which fans or bettors could convince themselves to expect much production from Albies. In 2023. Albies owns a .165 batting average, .536 OPS, and a 41 wRC+ against right-handed pitching. Simply, he is as close to an automatic out in these situations as is conceivable in the MLB as of this writing. Do not expect much from him at the plate, even in a seemingly good spot on Sunday.
