DFS Tournament Report: Week of April 24th - April 30th

The DFS Tournament Reports will be a weekly feature here on RotoGrinders, hitting our pages every Monday and recapping all the big GPP action from the previous week.

There were plenty of big winners this past week with some of the biggest names in DFS taking down big GPPs. Here’s a quick day-by-day breakdown of who won what and some of the winning lineups.

Monday, April 24th

The week got off to a big start when DFS legend and former RotoGrinders Tournament Player of the Year, mcjester took down two of the top five spots in the FanDuel $500K Spectacular Shot including the win for a nice payday of $107,000. He edged out garypoppins in 2nd place and comfortably_numb in 3rd place with three players under 12% ownership (hard to do on a playoff NBA slate) in Malcolm Brogdon, Al-Farouq Aminu, and Kent Bazemore. Those three put up 100 fpts for approximately $15k in salary and allowed McJester which when combined with the somewhat low-owned Stephen Curry and his 57 fpts, a big game from Giannis (55 pts), and a monster game from Norman Powell (40 fpts at just $3.1k in salary) gave him the winning lineup.

Speaking of former RotoGrinders TPOY’s, the 2015 champion, ehafner continues his reign of dominance in DFS (he’s once again currently in the top 20 of the TPOY race) after taking first place and winning $60,000 in the $200K Sweet Spot on FanDuel. This was quite the impressive showing considering the field he topped as rayofhope took 3rd, RotoGrinder contributor 1ucror took 4th, lovesbases took 5th, and csuram88 took 7th. Hafner used a dual-team stack of Rockies and Diamondbacks along with Jesse Chavez to take down the top prize with a 11.9% owned Chris Owings and his 38.2 fpt outing being the big difference maker.

petteytheft89 currently sits at #7 in the current TPOY race here on RotoGrinders and could move up after taking down the DraftKings $500K Home Run this past Monday. Travis frequently posts on the RotoGrinders forums and is a top 10 ranked player in MLB. He edged out a top notch field that included rayofhope in 2nd, and a trio of RotoGrinder’s contributors in BobbyFi (3rd), boggslite (4th), and Assani (7th and 9th) with a Arizona/Milwaukee stack headlined by the 2 homer effort of Eric Thames.

bdholla89 is a top 5 ranked NASCAR player and currently in the top 100 of the TPOY race. He added to his impressive DFS resume with a win in the DraftKings $250K Pit Stop on Monday (the event was postponed over the weekend) for a nice $50,000 payday. Not only did he win the event but he had three other lineups in the top 8 for an additional $14,500 in winnings. Suidmach had an impressive showing as well finishing 2nd and 7th.

The only person to ever win a five million dollar payday in DFS, aejones continues to add to his bankroll after coming in a three-way tie for first in Monday’s DraftKings $500K Crazy 8’s along with lucha85 and vatreni with the three each taking home a nice $55k payday.

Tuesday, April 25th

squirrelpatrol is a RotoGrinders premium content contributor who currently is a top 25 TPOY ranked player with a win Tuesday in the FanDuel $400K Enormous Grand Slam for a six-figure $100,000 addition to his bankroll. He edged out fellow RG colleague, bobbyfi who continued his impressive week with yet another 3rd place finish as well as DFS greats tinderella in 2nd, papagates in 4th, and the aforementioned ehafner in 6th and 10th. Squirrel took advantage of some weather concerns at Coors Field to get a under-owned Nationals stack combined with a Tigers stack of Alex Avila, Justin Upton, and Tyler Collins that combined for over 100 fpts to put together his monster score.

DollarBillW is currently the #1 ranked Middle Weight on RotoGrinders and also has a top 25 ranking in MLB. He emerged victorious over a DFS superstar laden field that included the 2016 TPOY SaahilSud in 2nd place, DraftCheat in 3rd place, and the hot-as-fire rayofhope in 4th place to win the DraftKings $400K Super Fastball and the $50,000 first place prize that came along with it. A low-owned Gerrit Cole and Tigers stack coupled with a highly productive J.C. Ramirez and Nationals stack were the keys to his winning lineup.

Shawnzhan has been a frequent name at the top of DFS standings for well over a year now and with a top 25 Grinders and NBA rankings it was not surprising to see him dominate the DraftKings NBA $500K Crazy 8’s with a 1st and 2nd place finish. His 2nd place lineup would tie with 4 others but a 2v2 swap of Steven Adams and Manu Ginobili (the 2nd place lineups had Clint Capela and Patty Mills) would net him an additional point in his winning lineup, one that would be worth a significantly higher payout as he didn’t have to share it with a solitary person other than himself.

Well known poker pro and DFS grinder, Brandon Adams (#37 overall on RG’s rankings) would also win $50,000 for winning the DraftKings $300K Gold Glove.

Thursday, April 27th

Thursday was a relatively quiet day in terms of major GPPs in DFS with eljefej, mjclub, and lvdonofrio14 each taking home $58K apiece for a three-way tie for first in the FanDuel SPECTACULAR Shot and RoKing winning $100,000 for having the top score in the DraftKings $500K Crazy 8’s.

Friday, April 28th

It was a big day on DraftKings on Friday as they celebrated their five year anniversary with a one million dollar prize pool MLB GPP. Bw5126 would get the biggest score of his DFS career as he would win the event for a hefty $150,000 prize. He edged out ebor1973 who would have to “settle” for $100,000. Fortheoffice would end up taking home more than him, however, as he finished both 3rd and 4th for a combined $120,000. Other significant top 10 finishes in the contest include ChipotleAddict in 6th, TeeJayOrTj in 7th, Rotomania in 8th, and Tommyg1979 in 9th. Bw5126 got there with a huge score from a Baltimore/Yankees stack that saw 7 players from that game combine for 178 fpts and all with ownership lower than 8%.
