Finding Paydirt: Week 16

Touchdowns, while extremely variant, make or break daily fantasy success and swing thousands of dollars every Sunday. Every weekend, players wait anxiously for the players on their roster to find paydirt. The purpose of the contest is to provide an opportunity for the RotoGrinders community to come together and have fun as we spend much of our time during the week stressing over the construction of our weekly lineups. Did I mention there will be prizes? Let’s have some fun!

Happy Friday, Grinders! With only two weeks left in the regular season, the contest is near a close. Week 16 brings an interesting slate because like Thanksgiving we will be short five games. Even without some bigger names, we will have plenty of options for our Sunday slate. Who is going to score touchdowns? Will anyone Drake the slate?

First-time reader? Welcome! Read through Finding Paydirt: 2019 Contest Guidelines for information about the contest and prizes. Ready? Let’s play.

Let’s make some cuts.

The Cut List

Simply put, to compete in this contest you must pick a running back, wide receiver, and tight end to score a touchdown on Sunday. The player must be on the DraftKings Main Slate and cannot be any of the players below. These players are the top five at both RB and WR and the top three at TE — I nix them hoping to make the contest more interesting.

Running Back Wide Receiver Tight End
Christian McCaffrey Michael Thomas Zach Ertz
Chris Carson Julio Jones Darren Waller
Saquon Barkley Tyler Lockett Mark Andrews
Ezekiel Elliott A.J. Brown
Derrick Henry D.J. Moore

Running backs appear to be exactly what we expect without perhaps, Dalvin Cook, who would likely be sitting anyway. Wide receiver gets a bit thin without the likes of DeAndre Hopkins, Tyreek HIll, and Davante Adams and tight end… well, it’s tight end. This week should be pretty good preparation for next week when an onslaught of players will be sitting to accompany the higher-priced players when everyone plays in the afternoon.

Let’s make our Week 16 picks.

Joe Mixon – RB – $6,600

In what is a pretty important game with respect to next year’s NFL Draft order, the Bengals travel to Miami to play the Dolphins. Even though both teams are bad, I mean, really bad. Very bad. Oh boy, they are bad. I feel like we have a couple of pretty good options for touchdown selection.

Joe Mixon continues to go overlooked every week despite amassing eight total red zone attempts and 22.33 rushes per game over the last three weeks. Despite losses being more helpful to the Cincinnati cause, Mixon continues to be a major factor in the offense regardless of the matchup.

The matchup this week happens to be awesome. Saquon Barkley dunked on the Miami defense last weekend after not recording 100 rushing yards in what felt like an entire regular season. The two touchdowns were a high-water mark for Barkley as well. With the Miami defense playing so poorly, a full complement of Mixon touches should put me in prime position for a score or two.

DraftKings Sportsbook Touchdown Odds — -125

Devante Parker – WR – $6,800

In the same game, Devante Parker — without Adam Gase calling the shots — is finally coming into his own in the NFL. Recently resigned, Parker is emerging as a legitimate WR1 threat each week with a relatively high likelihood of scoring for the Dolphins. Parker has four receiving touchdowns in three weeks with one of the games spent on the sidelines due to a mild concussion. There is no questioning Parker’s position as the elite red-zone option for a team with a quarterback that wants to feed his number one receiver. Against a putrid Bengals defense, Parker has two-touchdown upside on Sunday.

Austin Hooper – TE – $4,400

You will see this name bandied about a lot this weekend if you have not already. The price is pretty incredible considering his pre-injury discount. The matchup is pretty good for the Falcons who love will likely throw the ball a ton. Did I mention the game will be played in a dome while many other games will be in freezing cold temperatures?

I don’t want to bore you with too many statistics because with the thin nature of this position I don’t really see a point in fading an Austin Hooper touchdown this weekend. I don’t see a better option on the board and that might include our cut players.

DraftKings Sportsbook Touchdown Odds — +130
