MLB Daily Grind Down May 16th Part 2

The RotoGrinders MLB Grind Down article will give you an in-depth analysis into the MLB schedule. This article will break down the numbers for every single game and give you analysis on which trends you can exploit.
While matchups are a major factor in daily fantasy baseball, there are plenty of other factors to consider such as injuries, weather, and salaries. The analysis should point you in the right direction, but it is still up to you to decipher the information and make your own selections. No sport has more variance than baseball. The best choice is not always the right choice but following the trends will win you money over time. (any fp listed uses Fanduel’s scoring system)
Happy Thursday people! Or as I like to call it, the play in game to another great weekend filled with Qualifiers and monster GPPs. With only 8 night games on the schedule, Overlay will be a concern so keep that in mind. Lyle Overbay gets my nod as the player of the day as he takes center stage in an NYY offense that seems primed to explode.

- OU 7.5
- Favored TEX -120
Pitchers
- Home Yu Darvish is quickly becoming the best pitcher in Daily Fantasy. When you average 10 Ks a start, I would say that you have massive GPP upside. He draws a tough matchup today but the guy is playable every time he takes the mound. DET is batting .260 on the road, .286 versus right-handers, and .278 over the last 7 days. In Play
- Away Justin Verlander is the underdog today but he is the better pitcher. When ever to Aces square off against one another I normally like to take the least attractive choice out of the two. Verlander is pitching much better on the road than at home with a 1.08 road ERA but Arlington is a tough park to pitch in. TEX is batting .279 at home, .265 versus right-handers and .286 over the last 7 days. In Play
Batters
- Home If you are playing the fade then Adrian Beltre is 11-35 versus Verlander with an HR and has been hot over the last 7 days producing 33 fp. David Murphy ‘s numbers are positive also.
- Away If you are playing the fade then Tori Hunter is 6-18 versus Darvish with 1 HR. Prince Fielder is 2-6 with an HR.

Las Vegas
- OU 9
- Favored SFO -110
Pitchers
- Home Jhoulys Chacin has done the unthinkable this year. In 3 starts he has pitched just as well in COL as he has on the road with a 2.70 ERA. His ERA at home was a hefty 6.38 a year ago, though, so I am not jumping on the bandwagon just yet. SFO is batting .252 on the road, .275 versus right-handers, and .305 over the last 7 days. Avoid
- Away Matt Cain has not looked good on the year and a start in COL is not likely to get him trending upward again. I might be tempted to take him on a site that has major movement in their pricing as a very risky GPP gamble but you cannot even begin to think of using him today. COL is batting .277 at home, .267 versus right-handers, and .193 over the last 7 days. Avoid
Batters
- Home Troy Tulowitzki is 18-57 versus Cain with 4 HRs and is batting .386 in home games. Carlos Gonzalez has been the one Rockie not slumping on the road trip. He gets the splits in his favor today. The BvPs are not there for him but Cain was I different pitcher last year and CGO crushes the ball at home.
- Away Pablo Sandoval is 7-17 versus Chacin with 2 HRs and has produced 25 fp over the last 7 days. Buster Posey is 4-7 versus him. Brandon Belt has been hot over the last 7 days with 26.5 fp and draws a righty but is hitless in 10 AB vs. Chacin. Brandon Crawford has positive BvPs and is reasonably priced at SS.

- OU 8
- Favored LAA -138
Pitchers
- Home Jerome Williams 20 Ks in 8 starts means he has limited GPP upside. He has pitched well on the year. He should get the win today. If you are looking for a cheap pitcher on a multiple pitcher format then he is usable there but not recommended. CWS have been swinging the bats better lately. They are batting .249 on the road, .233 versus left-handers, and .290 over the last 7 days. They are too hot to ignore. If they hang him for 4 or 5 runs then Williams could end up losing you points. Avoid
- Away Jose Quintana K/9 totals are not as bad as Williams but they are not good either. He has been a better pitcher on the road with a 2.72 road ERA and has had success versus the Angels. His upside is too low and I do not think the Angels are the right spot to use him as a matchup play. LAA is batting .283 at home, .243 versus right-handers, and .258 over the last 7 days. Avoid
Batters
- Home Mike Trout is on fire producing 38 fp over the last week. Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton are also producing. Trout has 2-4 versus Jose with 1 HR.
- Away Paul Konerko has good BvPs versus Williams but has been in a horrible slump. Dayan Viciedo, Adam Dunn, Alex Rios, and Alexi Rameriz have all been hot over the last 7 days and have all produced more than 20 fp during that time.

Las Vegas
- OU 6.5
- Favored WAS -150
Pitchers
- Home Edinson Volquez has pitched decent at home. His problems have come on the road and WAS has not been batting well. His low K/9 ratio means that he needs to get you the win in order to be a good play, though, and it is too much of a gamble for that to happen today versus Strasburg. WAS is batting .225 on the road, .243 versus right-handers, and .232 over the last 7 days. Avoid
- Away Stephen Strasburg has been a hard luck pitcher this year. His last start in CHC went the same way. CHC hung 4 runs on him, none of them earned. I think the bad luck ends today against a very weak hitting SDG team. SDG is batting .239 at home, .249 versus right-handers, and .231 over the last 7 days. Target
Batters
- Home The low OU is enough for me to simply pass by this team. If you are playing the fade Will Venable is producing well and is 3-3 versus Strasburg with 2 XBH.
- Away Adam LaRoche is 5-14 versus Volquez and has produced 15.25 fp over the last week. Ian Desmond and Ryan Zimmerman have both been hot and are batting over .300 versus right-handers. Bryce Harper might not play so be mindful of that.
