What is your preferred tournament format (e.g. large-field, single-entry) to play on this slate? How do you plan to beat that field of opponents? What tactic or strategy will set you apart?
headChopper: I am playing the smaller-field GPPs with limited entries. It’s tough to get entirely different when the slate is this small. I’m probably going to be chalky at pitcher because I am not bottom-feeding with this group tonight. I think hitting might be the spot I can get unique by maxing my hitter stacks at 2 players from each team. It’s early, but nothing stands out to me at hitter, and with such a small slate, the odds that one of them goes off for a huge score drastically decreases. So while a lot of DFS rosters will still fully stack, I might just hunt for home runs from several different teams.
Dean78904: I mostly focus on single-entry and smaller-field contests. No team has an implied run total above 5 on this small slate, so I will be prioritizing pitching. Framber Valdez and Jameson Taillon are my top targets on DK, with Tarik Skubal being the first priority on FD. Sonny Gray, the strikeout upside of Will Warren, and the upside mystery box that is elite prospect Jacob Misiorowski are next up. For bats, this is more of a HR-hunting slate than a full-stack slate for me, so I’d expect to end up with 3-3-2 / 3-2-2-1 types of lineup constructions.
ebeimfohr: These micro slates are much more about finding the correct pathways to being different, which is when I really enjoy the smaller-field tournaments. This slate feels even more difficult than most to make pitching pivots, aside from Jacob Misiorowski. He is ultimately the lynchpin for me – if he’s going to get no ownership, he’s the cleanest tournament option on the board (on DK), but if he’s going to draw too much interest, then the Cardinals look quite appealing. Or vice versa. Combine that with a potential ownership discount on the Cubs due to 10-mph winds blowing in at Wrigley, and that’s where my slate tactics lead me.
Who is your favorite pitcher (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?
headChopper: Framber Valdez – Over his last 6 starts, Framber has a 28.7% strikeout rate and has held opponents to a .220 wOBA. Sounds great, but those numbers really aren’t all that far off from what he’s done for the entire season. Fact is, Framber is in the most important season of his professional career. It’s a contract year, with what will be the biggest deal he’ll ever sign as a pro. He’s dialed in this season, and the White Sox certainly aren’t a threatening bunch.
