Million Dollar Musings: MLB DFS Picks for Friday, August 30th
CheeseIsGood, a winner of a $1,000,000 1st-place prize on both DraftKings and FanDuel, is here to give you his musings on the upcoming MLB DFS slate. Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Cheese has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks.
Happy Friday! We have a 10-game slate with some clear top plays on both sides of the ledger. If you enjoyed seeing your Miami Marlins scoring 12 runs on 18 hits as chalk in Coors Field yesterday, then you’re going to love the Orioles coming to the Mile High City this weekend. I am thankful I only have to write about one of the games from this weekend’s series, and then we’ll let Cards handle the rest!

Friday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings
I’m going to list 7 pitchers as the top tier, but you could reasonably separate this group in a few different ways:
TOP TIER PITCHING
Blake Snell vs. Marlins – 33% K, 11.2% BB, 3.76 ERA, 3.42 SIERA
George Kirby at Angels – 23.5% K, 3.1% BB, 3.48 ERA, 3.53 SIERA
Framber Valdez vs. Royals – 24.2% K, 7.7% BB, 3.27 ERA, 3.43 SIERA
Pablo Lopez vs. Blue Jays – 26.4% K, 5.4% BB, 4.26 ERA, 3.41 SIERA
Kevin Gausman at Twins – 22.2% K, 6.8% BB, 4.10 ERA, 4.08 SIERA
Zac Gallen vs. Dodgers – 22.7% K, 8.4% BB, 3.65 ERA, 4.07 SIERA
Clayton Kershaw at Diamondbacks – 19% K, 6.3% BB, 3.72 ERA, 4.34 SIERA
Blake Snell had one of his big ole ‘whoopsie, I’m Blake Snell’ starts last outing with a goofy 6 walks in 3 innings against Seattle. That is a very useful reminder that Snell, much like his BFF Robbie Ray is unpredictable, not matchup dependent, and always pitching against himself as much as his opponent. With that being said, he’s also far and away the highest strikeout pitcher on this slate, and he had 5 straight starts of 8+ strikeouts prior to that whoopsie. All the other pitchers on this slate are closer to average strikeout pitchers and all in much tougher matchups. On DK, where Snell is only $10,200, I will say he’s the clear SP1, and even with the always present downside risk, I’m not going to have the gumption to fade him against Miami. I’m much more willing to consider the fade on…
