Pitcher Grind Down
- Carlos Martinez – Martinez will be making his 3rd start of the season, but he’s a bullpen pitcher that isn’t going to pitch deep into tonight’s game. The best case scenario for Martinez is that he pitches 5 strong innings and picks up the win. There’s more downside than upside here. Rating = 3
Salaries: $5600 FD, $10779 DS, $8350 DD, $5500 DK, $64000 FF, $13400 SS, $NA FTD
- Hyun-Jin Ryu – Ryu has a 3.06 ERA on the season with a 1.19 WHIP and a K/9 of 7.2. He draws a nice matchup against the Cardinals who are ranked 25th against LH pitching on the season despite having a few guys in their lineup that have historically hit LH pitching well. Ryu is not the top option on the board, but he’s certainly in play. Rating = 7
Salaries: $8200 FD, $16728 DS, $13900 DD, $9000 DK, $109800 FF, $23300 SS, $13900 FTD
Batter Grind Down
St. Louis
Yadier Molina – If you are looking for a cheap catcher option tonight, Molina could be a nice target. His price has come way down across the industry and he has always been good against LH pitching.
Additional Plays: Allen Craig
LA Dodgers
Adrian Gonzalez – The Dodgers are a sneaky team to stack tonight. Martinez is not going to pitch deep into this game and the Cards will likely have to go to their bullpen early. A-Gon has a .379 wOBA against RH pitching this season and Martinez has struggled vs. LH hitters.
Additional Plays: Dee Gordon, Yasiel Puig

Pitcher Grind Down
- Brandon McCarthy – McCarthy has pitched much better than his ERA suggests. He has a 5.38 ERA on the season, but a xFIP (Expected Fielding Independent Pitching) of only 2.99. I think we will see his numbers come down over the course of the season. It should hopefully start tonight against the Padres in Petco. Any team that can get no-hit by Tim Lincecum is an offense that can be picked on. He’s the top value on the board. Rating = 8
Salaries: $5300 FD, $12115 DS, $10850 DD, $6100 DK, $43700 FF, $15000 SS, $10850 FTD
- Tyson Ross – Ross has been dominant at home this season. In his 8 starts in Petco he has posted a 2.36 ERA with a 1.05 WHIP and a K/9 of 9.5. He’s pitched well against the D-Backs in the past and has great upside for the price. It may not be a bad idea to target both of these pitchers on multi-pitcher sites. Rating = 8
Salaries: $6700 FD, $17205 DS, $15350 DD, $8300 DK, $89800 FF, $23000 SS, $15350 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Arizona / San Diego
There are games with much higher totals on the board tonight. Petco is not a ballpark to target hitters in and I will be avoiding all batters from both of these offenses.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Trevor Bauer – Bauer is a decent strikeout pitcher, but he has given up at least 3 earned runs in 5 of his last 6 starts. While the Mariners’ offense has struggled all season long, they seem to be heating up, especially against RH pitching. I think he may be a fairly popular value play, but I’ll be avoiding Bauer tonight. Rating = 4
Salaries: $5400 FD, $11742 DS, $13100 DD, $6500 DK, $73800 FF, $17800 SS, $13100 FTD
- Chris Young – Young is one of, if not the tallest, pitcher in baseball. He creates some unique angles that hitters aren’t always used to seeing. That said, he has a very low K-rate and that immediately takes him out of fantasy consideration in my mind. Pitcher is such an important position in DFS that I like to stay away from the ones that have a low ceiling. Rating = 4
Salaries: $5700 FD, $10131 DS, $11750 DD, $5700 DK, $77400 FF, $16300 SS, $11750 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Cleveland
Carlos Santana – Santana has been red hot of late. Over his last 10 games, he has 15 hits (4 HR’s) over his last 10 games. His numbers are still down on the season, but you have to look at his recent performance and he’s been on fire.
Additional Plays: Jason Kipnis
Seattle
Kyle Seager – Seager is a very streaky hitter and he is on the upswing right now. He has 9 hits (2 HR’s) over his last 5 games and actually has much better numbers at Safeco than he has on the road. I love the matchup against Bauer who struggles vs. LH hitters.
Additional Plays: Robinson Cano

Pitcher Grind Down
- Johnny Cueto – This should be a fantastic showdown between two of the best pitchers in baseball – Cueto and Bumgarner. Cueto owns a 1.86 ERA with a 0.85 WHIP and a K/9 of 9.2. He has a nice matchup against the Giants in the pitcher-friendly AT&T Park. He may not get any run support, but is a terrific option on multi-pitcher sites tonight. Rating = 9
Salaries: $10300 FD, $22454 DS, $19350 DD, $10800 DK, $125000 FF, $30900 SS, $19350 FTD
- Madison Bumgarner – Bumgarner is also a nice fantasy option tonight, but this game could easily be 1-1 when both of these pitchers are taken out. I wouldn’t be surprised if this game ended up being decided by the bullpen. That said, the Reds are ranked 28th against LH pitching this season and Bumgarner should be able to mow through this lineup. Rating = 9
Salaries: $9800 FD, $20487 DS, $19700 DD, $10600 DK, $120300 FF, $28600 SS, $19700 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Cincinnati / San Francisco
Two excellent pitchers on the mound in a pitcher-friendly ballpark. That’s more than enough for me to avoid hitters from both teams in this game.
