Pitcher Grind Down
- Homer Bailey – Bailey is a much better pitcher than his numbers suggest. He has a 4.68 ERA on the season with a 1.45 WHIP. He still has an impressive K/9 though and I will be heavily targeting him throughout the rest of the season. Tonight he takes on a Cubs’ offense that is ranked ranked 29th against RH pitching this season (.287 wOBA). I like the upside that he offers at his price point. Rating = 7
Salaries: $8200 FD, $16233 DS, $14500 DD, $8500 DK, $86100 FF, $22000 SS, $13850 FTD
- Jake Arrieta – Arrieta is having a breakout season as a member of the Cubs. Through his first 9 starts he has a 1.98 ERA with a K/9 of 9.9. Vegas has this game set as a pick ‘em and while I like both pitchers, I’m going to give the edge to Bailey because he has a much better offense behind him. Rating = 6
Salaries: $6400 FD, $16302 DS, $15500 DD, $8100 DK, $91700 FF, $24100 SS, $15500 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Cincinnati
Joey Votto – Votto and the Reds have a tough matchup against Arrieta, but Votto is an extremely tough out and has always crushed RH pitching. His price is down across the industry and this could be a nice time to buy low on the former MVP.
Additional Plays: Billy Hamilton
Chicago Cubs
Anthony Rizzo – The two things that Bailey struggles with are LHB’s and giving up HR’s. Rizzo is a lefty and he has great power so this could be a nice time to take a chance on Rizzo at 1B. He has a .373 wOBA against righties this season.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Drew Smyly – Smyly travels to Arlington to take on the Rangers in Globe Life Park. Even though the Rangers’ offense has been a disappointment this season, they have really hit LH pitching well. They are ranked 2nd in all of baseball against southpaws with a team .344 wOBA. Smyly has a tough matchup in a hitter’s park. Rating = 3
Salaries: $6600 FD, $11971 DS, $11350 DD, $6100 DK, $70600 FF, $16600 SS, $11350 FTD
- Colby Lewis – I’ve been avoiding Lewis all season long and that trend will continue tonight as he takes on the Tigers. The Tigers are ranked 4th overall against RH pitching with a team .335 wOBA. Lewis and his 5.97 ERA can safely be avoided in all leagues. Rating = 2
Salaries: $6300 FD, $8197 DS, $9000 DD, $5000 DK, $43700 FF, $13000 SS, $9000 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Detroit
Victor Martinez – Hitters from both sides of the plate are in play tonight against Lewis, but V-Mart really stands out here. Lewis has given up a .426 wOBA to LHB’s this season and V-Mart should see plenty of RBI opportunities as long as Miggy doesn’t clear the bases in his at-bats.
Additional Plays: Miguel Cabrera, Ian Kinsler, Austin Jackson
Texas
Alex Rios – The wOBA machine love Rios tonight against Smyly. Smyly is giving up a .372 wOBA to RHB’s this season and Rios has a .492 wOBA against LH pitching this season. Rios also has nice speed on the bases and can score fantasy points in multiple ways.
Additional Plays: Adrian Beltre, Elvis Andrus, Michael Choice

Pitcher Grind Down
- Jordan Zimmermann – Zimmermann has been tough to get a beat on this season, but he has posted 4 quality starts in a row and appears to be back to his 2012-13 form. While his matchup against the Brewers in Miller Park may not seem like a great one, Zimmermann has held RHB’s to a .228 batting average and the Brewers have very few LHB’s in their lineup. I’m expecting another strong outing from Zimmermann. Rating = 6
Salaries: $8600 FD, $16464 DS, $15250 DD, $10000 DK, $109100 FF, $27400 SS, $15250 FTD
- Yovani Gallardo – Gallardo has been terrific in his last 3 starts. He has 20 strikeouts while only giving up 2 earned runs during that stretch. Tonight he faces a Nationals’ offense that has been rolling over the last few weeks of play. Even though Gallardo is the slight favorite here, I think Zimmermann is the better play. Rating = 5
Salaries: $7300 FD, $15754 DS, $14300 DD, $7600 DK, $88500 FF, $23300 SS, $14300 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Washington
Adam LaRoche – LaRoche ended his string of no extra base-hits with a 3 run blast off of Matt Garza last night which ended up being the only runs scored by either team. He’s been crushing RH pitching all season long (.393 wOBA) and is in play again tonight against Gallardo.
Additional Plays: Ryan Zimmerman
Milwaukee
There aren’t any plays that stand out on the Brewers tonight. Since the start of 2013, Zimmermann has held both LHB’s and RHB’s under a .305 wOBA.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Clayton Kershaw – Kershaw is coming off of one of the best games ever pitched. He was a Hanley Ramirez error away from a perfect game. Kershaw had to settle for a no-hitter in which he struck out 15 batters. Tonight he travels to Kansas City to take on the Royals who pride themselves in working deep into the count and striking out fewer times than any team in baseball. I usually try to avoid pitchers against them, but this is Clayton Kershaw that we are talking about. Rating = 9
Salaries: $11500 FD, $25424 DS, $22000 DD, $12700 DK, $143200 FF, $33000 SS, $23550 FTD
- Danny Duffy – Duffy could be a very sneaky GPP play tonight. He’s pitched well in each of his last 4 starts and his price is very affordable across the industry. He may have a tough time getting any run support, but he has a favorable matchup against the Dodgers who are ranked 24th against LH pitching this season. He’s a risk that could really pay off in a large GPP. Rating = 5
Salaries: $6100 FD, $12166 DS, $10550 DD, $6400 DK, $95500 FF, $17700 SS, $10550 FTD
Batter Grind Down
LA Dodgers
Scott Van Slyke – Van Slyke against a lefty is almost a must for me these days. He is one of the cheaper OF options on the board and has a .516 wOBA against southpaws this season. 12 of his 16 hits against lefties this season have gone for extra bases.
Additional Plays: Yasiel Puig, Hanley Ramirez
Kansas City
In case you missed it, Kershaw is coming off of a no-hitter. He’s the best pitcher in baseball. In other words, avoid all Royals tonight.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Aaron Harang – Harang has pitched well this season, but his ERA is marred by a couple of bad outings. I see him as a GPP-only option tonight as he is facing a strikeout happy Astros’ offense that is very aggressive early in the count. Rating = 5
Salaries: $6400 FD, $14331 DS, $13000 DD, $7200 DK, $65300 FF, $19800 SS, $13000 FTD
- Scott Feldman – Feldman is one of those pitchers that is rarely on the daily fantasy baseball radar. He has an average ERA and WHIP and a below average K-rate. Plus he plays for an Astros team that often struggles to score runs. His price is cheap, but he’s a risky option and is tough to trust in cash games. Rating = 4
Salaries: $5200 FD, $9504 DS, $9050 DD, $5700 DK, $56200 FF, $13300 SS, $9050 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Atlanta
Freddie Freeman – Freeman has great power against RH pitching (.372 wOBA) and is currently swinging a hot bat. He has 16 hits over his last 10 games, 8 of which went for extra bases. He has a favorable matchup against Feldman who is not a pitcher that you need to avoid hitters against.
Additional Plays: Jason Heyward
Houston
Jason Castro – Castro’s price has come way down since the start of the season and he’s now one of the cheaper pitching options on the board. I like the matchup against Harang who has given up a .357 wOBA to LHB’s this season.
Additional Plays: Dexter Fowler
