Sports Info Solutions: MLB DFS Advice for Wednesday, June 6th

America’s Pastime and daily fantasy sports are a perfect fit with an overload of data and statistics to analyze before making your lineup selections.

Because of the amount of information available to the DFS player, it can be a bit overwhelming, so I’ve tried to help you out by recommending a number of well-priced options by using Sports Info Solutions’ “SIS Model 3”.

SIS Model 3 gives DFS players an edge when setting their lineups as it uses the most expansive and accurate wealth of baseball data to create a tested DFS algorithm. You can learn more about the development of the algorithm in the RotoGrinders Marketplace.

Pitching Option

Zack Wheeler (FD Price $7100)

Wheeler pitched well in a no-decision against the Cubs on Friday and has gone at least six innings in his last three starts. Ignore his ugly 2-4 won/loss totals and 5.14 ERA. His 9.16 K/9 and 3.94 xFIP are indicative of a better pitcher than his record. His opponent, Baltimore, is beatable if you simply avoid making a mistake to Manny Machado and to a lesser extent Adam Jones. They are 29th in runs per game (3.71) and have struck out 542 times in 59 games.

Hitting Options

C/1B) Jose Martinez (FD Price $3200)

Martinez is a solid choice against a pitcher like Wei-Yin Chen who relies on his mediocre 90.5 mph fastball too much. The Cardinals 1B has feasted on fastballs (7.7 wFB).

2B) Jed Lowrie (FD Price $3400)

It’s amazing how little respect Lowrie gets. Maybe because he plays most of his games late at night in Northern California? He’s putting up top-five numbers at his position this season (.360 wOBA, 42 RBI). His production against fastballs (10.2 wFB) is the best since 2012 and that’s all he’ll see against Rangers’ starter Bartolo Colon.

3B) Eduardo Escobar (FD Price $3300)

Escobar has built on last season’s production and in 2018 his .367 wOBA and 11 home runs make him a viable DFS option. Against a struggling Hector Santiago (1-2, 5.83 xFIP, 1.62 WHIP) who throws a high percentage of fastballs (68.1%) with relatively poor results (-4.9 wFB), Escobar should be productive (6.9 wFB).

SS) Carlos Correa (FD Price $3900)

Sometimes the obvious is the best way to go particularly when he’s reasonably priced. Correa is an elite shortstop who is producing at a .379 wOBA rate against lefthanders and goes up against lefty Wade LeBlanc. LeBlanc likes to use his changeup (29.6%) and Correa is above average against that strategy (1.0 wCH).

OF) Tommy Pham (FD Price $3500)

The Cardinals outfielder had a breakout season in 2017 and continues to produce in 2018 (.352 wOBA). Pham owns an even more impressive .401 wOBA against lefthanders so he should be a bargain at this price against lefty Wei-Yin Chen.

OF) Khris Davis (FD Price $3600)

Another Oakland A’s hitter who gets too little attention. After blasting 85 home runs the past two seasons and 14 more this season despite a trip to the DL, Davis should be in your lineup Wednesday against Colon. Davis hasn’t produced against the fastball quite as well as last season (22.9 wFB in 2017), but it’s still his favorite pitch to hit and that’s all Colon throws (80.7% FB).

OF) Brandon Nimmo (FD Price $3300)

Nimmo is second among all hitters with at least 100 ABs against RHP, posting a .463 wOBA and will face righty Dylan Bundy on Wednesday. He’s also been better on the road than at home making this a perfect fit at a good price.

UTIL) Nick Markakis (FD Price $3700)

Markakis is producing solid results this season as the cleanup hitter for the surprising Braves. He’s batting .332 with eight homers, 39 runs, 42 RBI and a .384 wOBA. He’s 4-for-9 in the first two games of the series with the Padres.

Stacking Option

When it comes time to draft a fantasy baseball team in DFS, stacking is a widely accepted strategy. There’s a reason: it works. If you want to win big, you will need a gigantic score, and stacking makes it easier to rack up the points because the scoring of batters in a given lineup is interrelated. Batters reaching base allows the hitters down the line to drive them in, creating something of a snowball effect.

Oakland Athletics

You have already seen that I have chosen Jed Lowrie and Khris Davis for my lineup. You could stack those two with Matt Olson (.350 wOBA), Marcus Semien or take a flyer on Matt Joyce in what should be a high-scoring contest.
